Acoustic String Comparison: 80/20 vs. Phosphor Bronze
Choosing Right Strings for your acoustic guitar | Best Strings For Acoustic Guitar

Acoustic Guitar String Shootout - Coated vs Phosphor Bronze vs 80/20 - D'Addario
Does String Gauge on Acoustic Make a Difference? 10's vs. 13's: but do you have an arrangement of that version of comfortably numb?
80/20 - for bass sounding guitar. Phosphor is for tiny guitars as for me.
the 80/20 sound to tinny in my o
How often do I switch out my strings if they are 80/20 bronze?
Sometimes 80/20 is better and sometimes p.b. Hard choice for me
PB all day 80/20.
I’m a phosphor guy but dude that guitar sounds amazing with 80/20 like absolutely amazing!
Looking at the comments, it just goes to show that both of these sets of strings sounded fantastic and I I think the only thing that divides them Is personal preference in the end.
They both sound very good, naturally the 80/20 is way brighter and the phosphor warmer and fuller. I have an 80/20 set now and i think the next i will put on will be a phosphor. And of course is all in the taste of each person, if you play purely acoustic, no amplification, and you need to cut through, use 80/20. If you don't need that much cut and you need a warmer sound, get the phosphor. Also the instrument's voice is key in deciding which strings you will use. For dark instruments the 80/20's can do miracles, and for brighter guitars, you can pretty much balance it out with the phosphor strings. Great vid man, thank you.
It's been my experience after over 30+ years of suffering from what I call Obsessive-Compulsive Hyper-Critical Guitar String-Blaming Disorder (OCHCGSBD) that it indeed comes down to Phosphor/Bronze and 80/20. In general, Phosphor/Bronze strings can be considered the "Great Equalizers". On a "modest" guitar (less than $1,000) the Phosphor/Bronze can work wonders at helping the instrument sound pleasing. They have a generic sound that can cover over a cheaper guitar's imperfections. Also, it is very true that they last longer than 80/20s. It's when you get up into the high-end of the acoustic guitar world that the 80/20's begin to make more sense. The 80/20s, short-lived though they are, are the strings that make a Martin, a Gibson, an old Westerly Guild F50r, sound completely unlike each other; and completely like themselves. In short, if you want to hear what your guitar really sounds like, use 80/20s.
Sounds like you have an easier time with the phosphor
Excellent version of yesterday!
Hi, is the phophot bronz extra light is good par for yamaha fg800?

I liked the 80/20s. I'd have to cut out more low end with the Phosphors to not fight my bass sounds. I would use the Phosphors if the music wasn't guitar-focused and I just wanted to blend it into the mix though.
My ears really don't like bright sounds whether it be on guitar or speakers, was wondering if it was the strings on my new guitar doing it and this pretty much confirms I need some Phosphor strings. Cheers for the video, very useful
Thanks a ton. Learning everything about guitar from you.
very useful info brother
Hellow Sir ! , I appreciate the way you make us know about many things which we haven't heard anytime we are thankful for that . @organicshopping Thanks for the compliment. I will be putting more up but right now am concentrating on my personal recordings of my own songs. If things pick up with my visitors, or i get new strings, I'll post up more. Thanks for subscribing.
I came here for a little bias confirmation. Let me explain that I own a Fender dreadnought cut away that I love mostly because of it's one of a kind finish and feel. I always had the Phosphor Bronze on it because that's what it came with, but I never really liked the sound. It had a harsh and brittle quality to it (I blame my Laminated maple top mostly), where I wanted a warmer rounder sound that would still project well. I recently changed to Elixir coated nanoweb strings and I got a lot closer to what I have been aiming for. They definitely tamed the harshness and it is still pretty bright. They are a different brand of course, and I may try the D'Adarrio EXP's next time, just because I like the brand for my 2 electrics.
I forgot you were testing strings!. I was enjoying your great playing on the acoustic guitar! Those EXP strings sound very good to me. A close 2nd would be the 80/20 Bronze.
B and C sounds awful
Can I put D'Addario XL ECG23 (Flat Wound) Chromes Stings (10-48) on an acoustic guitar? Would it still sound like an acoustic, but a little warmer?
I like Set A better. The most balanced and moderate. oh now I know it's the most expensive set The sets sounded progressively brighter. Great playing and recording, Justin!
A C B for me ‍♂️
I could hear the difference between bright and warm but not coated/uncoated. I have studio monitors btw some of you may have difficulty hearing on laptop or phone speakers. It's not terribly subtle, not too noticeable either though. Without a side by side I wouldn't know the difference.
Anyone know which strings the Yamaha FSX 800C comes with from factory? The guitar sounded great until the first string change. I changed the old strings out with D'Addario EXP 11's. Now it sounds very tinny with almost no balance on the highs and lows. Gonna put the old strings back on until I can figure this out.
Thomas shelby can definitely play guitar
Hi Justin U might want to do A New comparison. All new strings! The Xs The NB ect. The company may help you with it. I'm positive they will. FYI Check " Martin String " Video THE BEST EVER. Guy never moves, same chords. The Editing was insanely Great. Thanks
thank you sir im having dilemma these days but u helped a lot
awful rendition in low res video here on youtube, terribly saturated espcially when strumming. I recommend the high res versione of the file on Justine's website.
It's completely subjective. Ask 10 people and you will get 10 different opinions.
the last one was obviously phosphor bronze
Could SO hear the difference. Thank you!
A) - very bright but flat (EXP 19 Coated) B) - more even subtle tone (80/20) C) - very warm (Phosphor Bronze) - (this one was my fav sound wise for some reason.)
Very cool shootout. It’s been a long time but I’d like to see if the hi res files are still on the site. I was surprised that set c wasn’t the coated and without giving it a lot of thought yet, I think it might be partly the order that they were played in. Having the coated come after the 80/20s might have thrown me off but set c sounded brighter than set a. The daddario coated pho’s bronze and in that gauge is my string of choice. So a perfect video. I guess it’s also a valid point to use coated for stored guitars, but my understanding is that it’s the oils in your fingers when playing that has the most corrosive effect. If you clean strings before store guitar, I don’t know how much corrosion there will even be sitting safely in the case.

My old ears couldn't detect a dime's worth of difference, but Justin's brief conclusory summary is extremely valuable. As an armchair player switching between instruments every 2 or 3 months, nothing makes sense other than the long-lasting coated strings. Thanks.
I like A
