look how wholesome this review is compared to their more recent reviews.... they make you feel like you're watching porn now and dimitiry's always in your face. the ego is.....
8 years on and I'm still using this case. Just installed a new 3080 into it and with six fans moving air through the chassis the card never seems to get above 70c even at 99% utilization.
Still using the 550d to this day...wanting to change to a new one but...oh its feels super solid.
still using this case 7 years later. Still best case for me, the new corsairs suck
Stunning video Editing & Shooting .IT's just awesome  I want to learn how you made this video
I think now a days warranties are up to 2 yearrs only with all corsair cases
A poor design. I noticed several issues with it.

Hello, could you please tell me other cases in the same level as this 550D? An Asus Sabertooth 990fx motherboard will go in it with a GTX 760. Thanks!
for people complaining about not being a gaming case, i'm running this baby with a 780ti with a waterblock and water cooled processor,
Conrgats on 69k subs!
If you want silence with this case, buy quiet fans, because this stock fans are not quiet! I have it and for me is beautiful, large, excellent, just not the stock fans
I take it this isn't so much as a gaming case?
Every time I want to check out a case, I write the name on youtube and I hope to find your result.
This is the best mid tower case to me. I had seen around 30 vids, and this is the winner :)
You guys make a really good review, good visuals first video I've watched from you guys and I'm extremely happy.
It's honestly 6 one way, half a dozen the other. I prefer the 500R, just because of better airflow and SLI needs more fresh air.
Fractal Design Define R4. $50 bucks cheaper for better silence and airflow. But if silence isn't an absolute must, I'd recommend the Fractal Design Arc Midi R2
Guys should i get this or the 500R? i will be using a 760 a intel core i5 3570k i will be overclocking and i might be adding SLI later. But also will a h100i fit in this or the 500r? With some modification ofcourse :P
You don't have to choose between silence and airflow that is completely false in this video. If you keep all covers you have ultra silent PC with decent airflow but if you put for example 2 x 140 Noctua fans with low noise adapters on a top of the case and remove one of the cages for disks you have a excellent airflow and a silent PC as well. Overall this review is ok.
2018!
Love this case. A great size. Great quality. I use 2 optical drive bays. and have 6 drives. How people get away with only 2 is beyond me.
Yup that new 8k footage sure does make this look crap...
oh my god, these old videos are so bad, but for some reason it makes them so much more enjoyable! bring back the old unedited, unscripted linus! #FreeTheLinus!
Brother gave me his old computer that had this case 5 years ago. I just realized there were 2 fans in the front I didn't know about... Well let's just say, it's a few grams lighter and air flow exists now.
Fractal Define R5 vs Corsair Obsidian 550D! Who Winns?
02:10 error in the Matrix
This guy on cocaine! Good review tho..
Anyone watching this video should remember that this case came out over 3 years ago. As such it's silly to hold it to the standards set by cases released recently. So for guys like mr. Christopher Snow down there quit bitching about optical drive bays. This case was released well before it became popular to start omitting them. I've owned this case since early 2013, and it does it's job. For the record I'm using two of the 5.25" bays, one for a dvd drive (contrary to the belief of some, they come in handy sometimes), and I have a fan controller installed in the other. All that being said, I wouldn't buy this case today, like I said it's over 3 years old, there are newer, better cases out there (think Define R5).
Dampen: verb 1. make slightly wet. Damp:  verb 3. restrict the amplitude of vibrations Just saying...
I've had this case for a year and a half.  Have to say if I were to do it over again I wouldn't pick this case, but not due to poor quality or silence issues, this is VERY well made and VERY silent.  However, I've come to find that there is a lot of wasted space in this case in the form of HD cages, which I did remove as I don't really need them as I used the 5.25" bays to hold my HD and SSD, it just seemed like a waste of space to me to actually have the optical drive bays.   What I'd like to see from case manufacturers is some modular design to remove the optical bays and mount the drive cage in it's place leaving the bottom open for airflow, rather than the kind of patched together solution of using 5.25 to 3.5" bay converters as I ended up doing.  Would have saved some time and some interesting cable routing effort if I could have just removed the optical bays entire and moved the drive cage up in it's place.   I'd like to see a second gen edition of this case just to clean up the few little issues there are, because otherwise the case is perfect.  More modularity is the thing I think all cases need to keep at the forefront of future design.
This or NZXT Phantom 410?
I'd like to know fi those 3 stock fans are enough for decent airflow or if you should add a couple more fans (not for gaming)
He said 25 inch ssd. Lol.
He said 25 inch ssd. Lol.
Here's a crazy idea. I'd like to see you review the 550D again. Because I've now watched a lot of your videos, I think a review today would provide an updated perspective. I admit a certain bias towards quiet and hope to see more from you in that vein.
Will there ever be a video when nothing drops on the floor haha! XD
If you want to keep everything closed then this case must make the components HOT as hell >,< which I do not like, components need to have airflow :/
This or the FD Define R4?
Sorry !! Can I get this Case
Your voice would be perfect to become a radio host. O_O
You can open the door with devices attached, as long as the cables are not super short. I constantly have my headphones and a gamepad plugged into the front ports and can easily open/close the door without issues (it just slides along the cables smoothly). That said, I rarely open my front door, usually only to clear the front fan filters. The only disc I've used on my new build is Windows 7 (haven't put it on USB yet).
Push, i had the first unboxing up of this case.
My Twin Frozr GTX 1060 idles at 34c , and my i5 6600k idles in the 20s, in this case. Playing Skyrim on ultra my processor stays in the low 30s and the gpu never gets past 58c. This case keeps things amazingly cool.
I have this case and love how quiet it is. Some people say it's not a gaming PC case, but I bought mine as part of a gaming PC with a 980ti card inside. Surely if it's not a gaming PC case, then why would a well established pc supplier, build a gaming PC around it as well as offer a 3 year warranty for the system, knowing they are likely going to have to repair it several times at their cost, because overheating is likely to be a problem.
you got almost all the fan placement measures wrong
"Not going to want to", you answered a question I had, that I thought should just barely work. H75 blowing out the back for a 290X and a H100 blowing out the top for the 8350. Move the Hard drives up top, and have three fans blowing in for positive pressure.
can noctua nh d15 fit there? thanks...
I removed the drive cages, got 5.25 to 3.5/2.5 adapters to mount my drives in the 5.25 bays.  Airflow improves immensely with the cages out of the way.  Changed the fans to 3 120mm Noctuas 2 front intake, 1 rear exhaust with a Noctua NH-U14S CPU cooler aiming front to back for airflow.  Positive air pressure and the dust covers keep most all the dust out.   This runs silent.  Overclocking in this, yes, but you'd want to add the H100i to it which in my view when you start removing the top panel or even the side intake for the graphics card cuts down on the silent aspect to it which to me is the whole point.   I'm not overclocking and I have a single GPU, the fans of which I never hear even after running Furmark for hours.   Temps for my i5 3570K and GTX 660 O.C. MSI even with Prime95 and Furmark running at the same time, max temp I see with an ambient of 35C, I'm in Vegas, are 58C on the CPU and 60C on the GPU, that's after running Furmark/Prime95 for 2 hours.  I do have the fan speeds adjusted to amp up sooner than the default on the GPU, I make the fans run 100% when the temp hits 58C.  The case fans are on PWM with the voltage regulator to keep them no faster than 1k RPM, to keep them quiet.  The NH-U14S however does spin up to 100% when the CPU hits 55C.   With the fans blowing at 100% under stress there is a slight noise detected.  But under normal use during games and running multiple apps and such those temperatures/fan speeds don't get extreme to the point of being audible.
Ok I want my rig to run Silent but I will not be sacrificing my temps for it... so I think this case isn't for me sadly :/
nice i have the 650d and i deedet a closer look to the 550d for a friend. realy well don. thx i think i bui thisone!!
So what is the height and width of this case?
Very nice review!
i absolutely love the looks of corsair cases but i have to say that fractal got it right with the 140mm fans everywhere on the define's ... if you compare the noise/airflow ratio vs 120mm fans they are clearly better... the only downside is the price
I can tell you that asus maximum v impact does fit in the 550d :p
Corsair 550D vs Fractal Design R4? Which has better noise levels?
Your cable management really nice and clean.
Nice review and I can't wait to get my hands on it. It was pretty much made for my needs.
You could go for the Carbide 400. You could remove the mesh from the door to make a window. The retail price is $99 and the "bulge" on the opposite side gives some extra room for cabels where this Obsidian don't. I've built a couple of rigs using the 500R
Don't like how the whole case is black, and then the front I/O is silver :/
The corsair air 540 has amazing cable management but it's 150$... so I don't know lol
Okay, im looking for a decently cheap case with a window and cable management with the rubber grommets, but i only wanna send about $80, is this possible lol?
tard, its 120 and 140 mm
