Christopher you are my go-to person for reviews. I have a Canon70D so I appreciate your APS-C comparisons 👍👍👍👍
Worth every penny!
Hi there, I would like to complement you on your reviews I found them so helpful. I'm looking for advice on getting into photography, always have a small compact in my rucksack. There is so much advice out there I'm baffled and I'm unsure which way to go, I have looked at the Cannon 7d II which has great reviews even though its an old camera. Wildlife photography would be my main interest, therefore the Canon 70 - 300 looks impressive. I have a budget of around £1000 therefore I will have to purchase second hand equipment. If you have the time and could suggest a combination I would be so grateful. Nigel
Some day I hope to afford this :/ :P
Canon is capable of building a good, moderately priced lens, the EFS 55-250 IS STM proves that, but Canon simply refuses to do it for all their lenses. They give the consumers crap for a low cost and they charge outrageous prices for the L lenses. Nothing in between! Where are all the lenses with excellent glass but without all the pro features and build for $300-$500?? In that price range all we get are a few lenses that aren't really very useful. In every other industry the availability of low-cost, high-precision computer controlled industrial machines has dramatically reduced the cost/quality ratio of goods. But not in SLR lenses. Why??
Thanks for the review Chris. Helped me in my buying decision. I bought this over the normal 70-300 mm nano USM Mark 2 and boy am I delighted. It is worth every penny spent over the non-L version. I took some pictures of some birds under an overcast sky with very less light and still the outcome was amazing. The feathers of the birds came out super sharp. Now I am waiting for a sunny day to see the results. I feel if one can afford, this should be the lens of choice hands down. It's a true L quality Canon lens despite the variable aperture.
This or 100-400 for Canon 90d? i already have the 18-135 kit lens, so looking for some telephoto, but i want to keep it portable and flexible. 100-400 looks amazing, but i was always looking at this 70-300 as well.. i'd love travel+wildlife
Sorry but at 300 mm it is not so sharp using apc sensor. I use f8 i have many photo experiences and stable hand but...
Excellent review thanks Christopher. Please can you give me your view. My wife and I are in the middle of a 3 year caravan tour of Southern Africa, spending most of our time in game parks on self-drive safaris, currently interrupted by Covid-19. We own 2 x Canon 7D MkIIs, on mine I have a 150-600mm Sigma Contemporary (photographing mainly birds and distant animals) and are looking for a lens for my wife. She will use it for a combination of closer birds, animals and videoing. We are down to a choice between the Canon 70-300mm reviewed in this article (our first choice) and the more modern Canon 70-200mm F4 L IS II. We primarily photograph from in the car using beanbags and door mounts and mostly on reasonable weather days. My only concern is the 5.6 of the 300 (at the further end of the range) vs the 4.0 of the 200 plus the additional 250gms weight on the 300, particularly when videoing. Your thoughts would be appreciated, many thanks. Cheers John
I have a 750d body, I have a canon 70-300mm II usm lens, it works well for me, would it be worth swapping for this L- lens, I was looking at the 70-200mm L lens as well but I would lose how far I could zoom I assume, what's your advice please
Which is better, this one or the DO version?
I bought one of this used, i guess the main use will be .... larger animals or birds (not small ones unless i can get close), planes at airshows and such things. My general thought behind getting it was that i want a telephoto lense with good image quality that is portable and has IS as i will be mostly shooting handheld. I just dont see myself shooting a 600mm image steady even with IS (handheld). I only had one walk with it so far on my 77D but it felt like even i as an amature could get stuff done. And its a perfect companion for my 18-85. Altho the 55-250mm is also a fine piece of kit. -> keep in mind i got it used for about 700$ in very good condition so... i might be a bit bias'd on price terms
Canon 70-300mm f / 4-5.6 IS USM L 'lens from Canon's prestigious series. My expectations were higher than her. Compared to Canon 55-250. It's a shame not to replace it with a new generation with a fixed F4. And better quality and sharp optics.
Hello there Christopher. Im wondering why on dxomark this glass have only 8-9p-mpx on aps-c cameras if it is so sharp. Im for this glass for my 77D.
How does it stack up against the Canon EF 28-300mm L ?
Hello Chris Do you know if this lens can be used with canon 1.6 or 2 x converter on either my full frame 5D mk III or my cropped 8OD
I know this is an old video, but you should check the Tamron 70-300mm VR lens, I've never seen VR as good as on that lens, it is even better than the VR/IS in the Nikon and Canon pro zoom lenses.
Cheapest lrns for canon m50 best lens under 200 dollars with IS and should be light weight and some amount of zoom should be there like 3x or 5x ok
thanks for the great vedio. is this sharper as same as Canon 70-200 L f4 is ?
I am not a professional imgs.love/Tamron70?Ѐㄱ but I like to take professional looking photos. I needed a nice zoom lens to use for indoor sporting events (swimming). It worked fantastic and I know it will be even better outdoors in natural light. I am very happy with this lens, it is a great deal for the price.
somehow, I feel that sense of object framing is missing.. try to shoot the object alone..
English accent is good for asiN
I’m gunna laugh my ass off when you drop that in the pond some day because you will have deserved it....use your Nikon strap for crying out loud...how foolish.
You talk too much and we are here for the samples
What was THIS video shot with ???
Nikon is far better then canon only few people knw this secret iam lucky to knw this
Canon 1300d used?
Indian songs music 🙄🙄
Thanks for you and for the person video you.
thanks for the vedio..is this sharper as canon 70-200 L f4 is usm?
anybody know if this lens take sharp pictures?
most annoying prick ...EVER
Is this lens still worth adding to the arsenal?
Should I get this Lens or the 70-300 NANO Lens?
What I'd love to see is a 100-400 f/4.
Canon EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM or Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM or 70-200 f/4l which is good for canon 80 D ?
boobs buttcheeks . . remember when you use a 1000mm (non-canon of course!) lens . . you sacrifice "boob and butt clarity! . . now why would anyone do that?
This lens is worth every penny!! Comparing the L to the non L lens is comparing chalk and cheese.
Optically far superior and pro build.
There is a reason why Canon L glass costs considerably more than a standard lens and its not the red ring.
Hello dear.!!! I bought it two weeks ago and I CAN'T make a good focus with it, .. the truth is, I am very disappointed with the sharpness and quality of the images, .. I have a 75 - 300 of the Canon economic line and FAR the sharpness is superior to this very inferior lens ... I beg you can explain why this could be .. ??? Every time I go out with it, I return to the POC to see images and I am very disappointed with a very poor quality.- NOTE: I bought it NEW, not used - REGARD Santiago/Chile
What do you think between canon 70 300mm f4 5.6 is 2 usm and canon 70 300mm f4 5.6L is usm. Even though the last one is about 10 years old.
On a R5/R6 you still can use this lens on 300mm without any reduction in resolution (like the other ones on the market) you even can use the Kenko Pro 1.4x Converter and focus with the combo (you can not do this on older reliably). The Tamron and Canon IS II model do not reach the quality on 300mm and can focus that fast on the R5/R6.
i got one of these Canon lenses and i had it for 6 years now and i use it for fashion / celebrities / wild life / sports / portraits/ and video recording and is a good lens and well made
good video, could you advise me? Which do you think is the best option, this lens or the 70-200 f/4L is ii usm? Thanks a lot
For a L-Serious, eBay has some really good prices right now for used 70-300mm lens.
You can find plenty of these in excellent condition on Ebay for around 700-800, well worth the purchase over the non L imo
https://youtu.be/3iNY4WQ_-4w a much better review.
dont judge a lens on price. if someone cant afford it they will buy a cheaper version. Dont judge a camera on weight. If people are watching weight they buy the cheaper version.I Didn't care how much it weighs.
Shoulda did a real world lens test out in the world. Jared Polin style.
I bought this over the normal 70-300 mm nano USM Mark 2 and boy am I delighted. It is worth every penny spent over the non-L version. I took some pictures of some birds under an overcast sky with very less light and still the outcome was amazing. The feathers of the birds came out super sharp. Good review that touches on several categories. If money is no object, then this would be the best of the 70-300 focal length lenses that Canon offers. Sharpness, fast accurate focusing, built quality, good sealing, 4-stop IS, compactness, are its outstanding features. Not to mention, it sports the red ring and off-white exterior color that gives it that premium luxury professional look. After renting this lens several times, I finally decided to buy one and for me it’s a keeper.
You can take photos with Any cameras as long as you understand LIGHT AND how to use your camera
When ever I use this canon 70/300MM F4.5.6L I always USE THE LENS HOOD also I set my camera on AUTO IOS
I got one of these canon lenses and I use it for Portraits/Fashion/Sports/Wild Life /Macro photography/ Video recordings and I had it for 6 years now and is a good lens to have and well built
It’s 2021 and now it’s on adorama for $199
I brought this lens about 8 months ago used, half priced and loving the results. This lens is a tank and it's heavy but the images are sharp.
I use this lens all the time now and after watching this review it was not the best choice back in the day. However now it is a perfect telephoto lens to use as it is much cheaper and still performs well.
A quality built lens, sharp from corner to corner, good focal length, image-stabilized, and compact in size to easily carry in the camera bag.
9 years ago? I'm searching Affordable Lens for Canon R6. Would you recommend this?
The kids in this football game are like 18 now, thats crazy
I have had this for almost a decade. My reason for buying it over the 70-200, was that I wanted to do a lot of outdoor shooting and the 200mm wasn't enough reach. I put this on my 7D and it is fantastic for nature shots. Yeah, I wish it was a wider aperature, but..... As for the price, have you seen what the RF lenses are going for?????
9 years ago jared is Camera Conspiracies in 2020.. 🤣
I know this video is 9 years old, but I have this lens personally and I own it because it is way superior to the slightly smaller 70-300 DO which I used to have and this lens is heavy but SUPER short in length when zoomed to 70. It's literally half the size of the 70-200 2.8 L so it takes up very little space in my bag :) Jared you didn't really emphasize the size much and that is the real "big deal": with this lens. Optically it is razor sharp and the IS is bullet proof!
The 70-200 weighs 3 lbs. This 70-300 weighs 2 lbs. This lens is much shorter, which means it can fit into more bags while still mounted to the camera. The lens is better suited for landscape photography, and larger wildlife, than sports photography.
BTW, he mentions Nikon has a similar 70-300 for $500 USD. He fails to mention that the Nikon is not weather sealed, and that Canon had a similarly priced 70-300, which is not weather sealed, either. Nikon did not offer a weather sealed 70-300, and still doesn’t.
woah 9 years old, didnt expect the og fro...... knows..... photoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo....... dot com
2019? And still FROKNOWSPHOTO!!!
If i am using 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens with extender 2x iii, then how much maximum aperture will I get as I heard extender effects the aperture of lens?
Damm at least put some effort on those shirt. WTF "I Shoot Raw" ? What will be next "I Eat Food".
Why is he talking about prime lenses and comparing it to 1.4 lenses, I don't see how it compares?
Thanks or the video..is canon 70-200 f-2.8 is mark2 +1.4x combination gives you same sharper image or lower?
