Hi - I'm new to this camera game! Really enjoy the objective reviews. I have an EOS M50 and I'm looking for a decent telephoto lens, can this one be used with an adapter or is there anything else you can recommend? Thanks Nick
Is it worth Buying in 2020
The gears turning because you had it on autofocus
I found a version of this lens with a completely clear barrel and I'm tempted
The thing which is missing in your review is that 200m zoom with an APS-C camera is similar to 320 mm with a full frame. Then we should not compare the picture quality at the same focal lengths. And as you have mentioned the quality with APS-C at 200mm is very good (like at 300m with an FR). However, many many thanks for your very useful and technical reviews.
thank you now i know how it works :P
hi is there really much difference between this and the 70-200 f4? or is the price difference not justified? regards
which one is better ? canon 55-250mm IS STM or 70-300m IS USM
My friend and ?Ѐㄱ I would never spend the crazy amounts for the Nikon or Cannon lenses, so this price was the only option for me. Since she’s received it, she has taken some amazing photos of birds, confirmed that the auto focus works well, and the macro zoom is something she’s always playing with and loves. This lens is an A+ for us.
Can you recommend this on mirrorless? Like canon m50?
Forgot that this lens can be used on both full frame and apsc bodies! Bonus!
Thank you Christopher. I’ve just purchased this lens online, and your review has helped me very much! Best regards Dave
Which one is better between 70-300mm and 18-300 mm. In your opinion?
Chris, just have a quick question though,
Canon ES 55-250mm IS STM lens or this 70-300 IS USM lens good for my Canon 77D?
i hate this channel
Great review Christopher well explained as I have ordered this lens. Love your images of Cardiff
I just picked up one of these in brand new condition for $116. There are plenty of used lenses on Ebay like this that are often dumped when someone gets an upgrade.
Is it compatible with canon 1500D?
Hi,That will fix with canon 650 d? Thanks
This or tamron 70 to 300mm sir?
very nice review
Who watch this video ending 2020
Thank you for your review, it has really helped me. I am on a budget and this lens will compliment my growing landscape and general photography. Kilimeruimages.
so
Hi!
I am looking for a lens especially for sport events (indoor and outdoor). Because I want made photos just for my pleasure, I don’t want pay much for lens. So I can’t decide between Canon EF 70-300 IS USM II and Tamron 70-300 Di VC USD. What did you recommend?
I have a Canon m50 + viltrox speedbooster adaptor. Also, the Canon lens is around 480 euro and Tamron around 330 euro.
Hi Chris, I bought a copy of this lens this week and it's very good, I see some new perspective in super zoom conditions. Thanks for guiding me through buying it
How this will work with 90D? Is it a good lens for 90D?
Got this lens as a gift today
Great review as always! Just a quick question how does this compare to the Sigma 150-600mm, is it just better to crop from the canon at 300mm or is it sharper on the Sigma after 300mm?
Would you consider this lens to be an upgrade when compared to the 55-250 stm lens
Yeah, no shit the L lens is going to be better tf
Good review though, thanks !
Hmm. Watching this review after your review of the 75-300 el-cheapo, it seems that this lens is optically inferior to that one on full frame. Have I got that correct?
Does anyone know of it works adapted on a Sony body?
This lens can use for canon 800 d ?
fantastic video! ive been looking for a zoom lens for my 77d for a while, the other day I was chatting with canon on their live chat and the reps over there really helped me narrow down my choice to this lens, which led me to your video! after that review it looks like im going to pick one up thanks!
Which one should I buy, Tamron 70-300 usd vc or canan usm ii ?
Does anyone knows if there is a x1.4 or x2.0 extender working on this lenses for Canon?
Hi Cris, in your opinion, for the canon 77 D, which is better, this lens or the sigma 100-400. Greatings for Portugal
It's frustrating the way canon names its focus motors. Here we have "NANO USM," which is meant to be better than STM (which is meant to be better than USM?)? Meanwhile the quality of STM varies wildly, working instantly and silently (really) on some lenses, but only decently quick with some noise on others.
The screen on this lens is neat, but I don't see much else that puts this above the shockingly good EF-S 55-250mm STM for APS-C.
Canon is capable of building a good, moderately priced lens, the EFS 55-250 IS STM proves that, but Canon simply refuses to do it for all their lenses. They give the consumers crap for a low cost and they charge outrageous prices for the L lenses. Nothing in between! Where are all the lenses with excellent glass but without all the pro features and build for $300-$500 In that price range all we get are a few lenses that aren't really very useful. In every other industry the availability of low-cost, high-precision computer controlled industrial machines has dramatically reduced the cost/quality ratio of goods. But not in SLR lenses. Why
Thanks for the review Chris. Helped me in my buying decision. I bought this over the normal 70-300 mm nano USM Mark 2 and boy am I delighted. It is worth every penny spent over the non-L version. I took some pictures of some birds under an overcast sky with very less light and still the outcome was amazing. The feathers of the birds came out super sharp. Now I am waiting for a sunny day to see the results. I feel if one can afford, this should be the lens of choice hands down. It's a true L quality Canon lens despite the variable aperture.
This or 100-400 for Canon 90d? i already have the 18-135 kit lens, so looking for some telephoto, but i want to keep it portable and flexible. 100-400 looks amazing, but i was always looking at this 70-300 as well i'd love travel+wildlife
Sorry but at 300 mm it is not so sharp using apc sensor. I use f8 i have many photo experiences and stable hand but.
Excellent review thanks Christopher. Please can you give me your view. My wife and I are in the middle of a 3 year caravan tour of Southern Africa, spending most of our time in game parks on self-drive safaris, currently interrupted by Covid-19. We own 2 x Canon 7D MkIIs, on mine I have a 150-600mm Sigma Contemporary (photographing mainly birds and distant animals) and are looking for a lens for my wife. She will use it for a combination of closer birds, animals and videoing. We are down to a choice between the Canon 70-300mm reviewed in this article (our first choice) and the more modern Canon 70-200mm F4 L IS II. We primarily photograph from in the car using beanbags and door mounts and mostly on reasonable weather days. My only concern is the 5.6 of the 300 (at the further end of the range) vs the 4.0 of the 200 plus the additional 250gms weight on the 300, particularly when videoing. Your thoughts would be appreciated, many thanks. Cheers John
I have a 750d body, I have a canon 70-300mm II usm lens, it works well for me, would it be worth swapping for this L- lens, I was looking at the 70-200mm L lens as well but I would lose how far I could zoom I assume, what's your advice please
Which is better, this one or the DO version?
I bought one of this used, i guess the main use will be larger animals or birds (not small ones unless i can get close), planes at airshows and such things. My general thought behind getting it was that i want a telephoto lense with good image quality that is portable and has IS as i will be mostly shooting handheld. I just dont see myself shooting a 600mm image steady even with IS (handheld). I only had one walk with it so far on my 77D but it felt like even i as an amature could get stuff done. And its a perfect companion for my 18-85. Altho the 55-250mm is also a fine piece of kit. -> keep in mind i got it used for about 700$ in very good condition so. i might be a bit bias'd on price terms
Canon 70-300mm f / 4-5.6 IS USM L 'lens from Canon's prestigious series. My expectations were higher than her. Compared to Canon 55-250. It's a shame not to replace it with a new generation with a fixed F4. And better quality and sharp optics.
Hello there Christopher. Im wondering why on dxomark this glass have only 8-9p-mpx on aps-c cameras if it is so sharp. Im for this glass for my 77D.
Price?
How does it stack up against the Canon EF 28-300mm L ?
Hello Chris Do you know if this lens can be used with canon 1.6 or 2 x converter on either my full frame 5D mk III or my cropped 8OD
I know this is an old video, but you should check the Tamron 70-300mm VR lens, I've never seen VR as good as on that lens, it is even better than the VR/IS in the Nikon and Canon pro zoom lenses.
Cheapest lrns for canon m50 best lens under 200 dollars with IS and should be light weight and some amount of zoom should be there like 3x or 5x ok
thanks for the great vedio. is this sharper as same as Canon 70-200 L f4 is ?
I always like hearing when Chris refers to price that ". this thing had better be good" lol.
70-300L or the 70-200mm f4 II L IS?
This or the 80-200 f2.8? Will use on Sony A7 with adapter MF.
Could you please review a Canon 28-300 and tamron 28-300
good video, could you advise me? Which do you think is the best option, this lens or the 70-200 f/4L is ii usm? Thanks a lot
For a L-Serious, eBay has some really good prices right now for used 70-300mm lens.
You can find plenty of these in excellent condition on Ebay for around 700-800, well worth the purchase over the non L imo
a much better review.
dont judge a lens on price. if someone cant afford it they will buy a cheaper version. Dont judge a camera on weight. If people are watching weight they buy the cheaper version.I Didn't care how much it weighs.
Shoulda did a real world lens test out in the world. Jared Polin style.
I bought this over the normal 70-300 mm nano USM Mark 2 and boy am I delighted. It is worth every penny spent over the non-L version. I took some pictures of some birds under an overcast sky with very less light and still the outcome was amazing. The feathers of the birds came out super sharp. Good review that touches on several categories. If money is no object, then this would be the best of the 70-300 focal length lenses that Canon offers. Sharpness, fast accurate focusing, built quality, good sealing, 4-stop IS, compactness, are its outstanding features. Not to mention, it sports the red ring and off-white exterior color that gives it that premium luxury professional look. After renting this lens several times, I finally decided to buy one and for me it’s a keeper.
