Thank you for your work! Have you had any experience with old Canon 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5? It looks like a good option for it’s price but I have not found good tests or reviews.
Ahoi Chris, no idea if you read comments on videos this old - have you had the chance to give this one a go on your modern mirrorless? It's sitting at a bargain 150€ where I am, and I am wondering if the sharpness at small apertures (f8) is competitive on a 30mp+ sensor like the eos r we both use (it'd pretty much be a landscape and architecture lens for me, I'm wondering if I should save for the samyang f1.8 or if the differences are negligible at f8)
I want the 14-24 from Sigma. But in a pinch. If I can get this for less than 200 on eBay. I'm for it

Thanks for the review. How does this lens compare optically to the slightly smaller and lighter (!) EF 20-35 3.5-4.5 USM or the 17-40 L, which both seem easier to find secondhand?

Honestly it seems to be a fairly good lens for Full Frame cameras. Stopped down is very sharp and with great colors and still... I've always heard very bad things about it (and none of them turns out to be tru according to this review). Very strange... I think I've found a landscape very wide for me. ;) thanks Chris! Cheers
Saw someone sell this lens locally for approx 160 pounds which piqued my interest, until I watched this informative video - will give it a miss! I love the build quality of these older USM prime lens and particularly my 100mm f/2.

This 20mm is an awful lens. The old 24mm 2.8 and 28mm 2.8 (the ones without IS) were far better quality . The 28mm in particular was very sharp across the frame wide open.
Is your on crop, this is a great lens. I’m a wedding photographer who can’t afford 2 5d iii’s or 5d iv’s with a 70-200 2.8, 35mm 1.4, and an 85mm 1.8 so, I use the 20mm 2.8 (32mm go equivalent) , 50mm 1.4 (80mm fed equivalent) and a 50-100 f1.8 (80-160 ff equivalent)
Can be use it on canon 800d?
Bought mine this week for 10,000philippine peso (200$). I think this one's good. Especially if you combine it with a 50mm, 85mm and 135mm.
I have an APS-C (750D). 20X1.6 is about 32mm. So I am trying to do low light portraits. I have 50mm f1.8 but all my images look like I shoot them with 80mm. If may ask which lens would you recommend that I should buy to have so I have f1.8 or f2 and my images will look like I shoot them with 35mm?

I am new to the channel, first of all thank you very much for your videos. I have a 6D and I want to buy an angular and bright lens for photography but also for video. I have found an offer on these two lenses Canon EF 20mm f / 2.8 USM and Canon EF 24mm f / 2.8 IS USM the supply volor of both is the same for now 389 euros. I am using a 28 mm NIKORR with adapter, and I see that definition is missing in my videos. Do you think that one of these lenses is a good investment? Which do you consider best on 20 or 24? Great review!!! This one lens I was hoping Canon would update. I really like the compact size and 2.8 aperture on this lens but the quality is a deterrent. If anyone has good connections with Canon, please have them work on a replacement :)

Hi, you are able to use the 20mm lens very well especially for the 'portraits'. The results look very natural. Also I am impressed by your very efficient editing workflow.

Thank you, really good review - tough decision now there are well priced wide zooms on the market, but I like how primes make you think more about each shot you take. Less flexible but not a lazy so to speak.
Love the video. My 20mm lens is really noisy on the autofocus. Not sure if that’s the case with all of them..
Little but of vignette. Easy to fix. But otherwise looks great! How was the video autofocus? I’m thinking of using this for a vlogging lens on the Eos R.

Hey man! This is one of the unique reviews on youtube for 20mm 2.8. I was looking to buy 24mm 2.8 USM IS lens but I met by chance with your review of 20mm and really enjoyed. I probably will change my mind and go for 20mm 2.8 instead 24mm 2.8. Pictures look good. I also do not have much pictures after my holidays as i take a lot of pictures of my wife and landscapes but me. Now this lens helps to take self pictures easily.
Excelent review, from the heart! I also own a copy of this lens and I fully enjoy it every time! It's unique! I'm curious about a technical thing regarding your remote shooting. I also take pictures of myself since 2008, I've done this in a few countries. Does the receiver work for both cameras and just change the N3 cable when using the 5DSR with the E3 cable when using the Rp? Good luck with everything you do!

Did you think is more sharper in EOS R than DSLR like 6D or 5D series because of the DUAL PIXEL AF??
In the editing portion of the video ... for some of the images initially shown with heavy vignette, is that straight from the camera? You mentioned this lens vignettes wide open, is that what we're initially seeing before Lightroom corrects it?
It just occurred to me you could used this same "selfie" technique with a model such that instead of you staying behind the camera, just use the remote and direct them. Especially with something like the RP or anything that has eye AF / face detection.

Love the colors here. Dirksón have you tried this lens with the 6D? For the selfies, I'm wondering if the inherent depth of field (maybe with a smaller aperture?) would still keep you in focus if the camera mistakenly focuses on your chest or head instead of your eye. (I can understand why you wouldn't necessarily vlog with that camera regardless of lens.)

I used this lens a lot in the 1990s with film cameras and thought it was great. I kept using it during my transition to canon digital in 2006 but ultimately traded it in for a zoom to cover more bases.
