Metz Mecablitz 15 MS-1 - flash macro
Sorry for my English, but for portrait(with an Olympus 45mm 1.8 on a E-m1 mark ii) is it strong enough? Maybe combine with Olympus small flash sold with the camera... Or better go for a godox?I plan to buy later an oly 60mm 1.8 or a pani 30mm...
Thank you so much for your clip, may I ask if this metz ringflash can be used with canon rebel T7? I try to do the set up, but it doesn't work.
I just purchased this flash and it seems that the GX-9 does not allow wireless flash control with the built-in flash... or am I just baffled by my new camera and flash? I guess it's time to try it with my old OMD-EM5 MK1.
Seems to be a rather bulky and somewhat deceptive product design for a macro twin flash.
Great review, thanks, and very entertaining! I will probably buy one of those!
+David Thorpe I just got this flash for my Oly OM-D EM-1 with a 60mm 2.8 macro Oly and I am having some problems setting this up. I am fairly new to photography and I just can't seem to make this flash work properly. I work as a dental professional and I would be using this cam setup mainly for clinical photos. I got it to work under the Oly setting but the flash is just too weak and all I get is black pictures. Any input on a proper setup would be nice. Also, I don't mind using it manually.
Fantastic tutorial! Been on the fence about buying this for my 60mm macro, but I think I'm convinced now!
Is there any chance at all using this flash with either Oly-75mm pro, or the Oly-40-150mm pro in TTL mode taking portraits and place the flash somewhere close enough to the subject so the eyes get that beautiful "circular reflection" ?Or will I need to put the flash on the lens to do that, and use a 25 / 45 mm?Anyways, this looks amazing, just uncertain if it`s powerful enough.
Great video! I just obtained a used MS-1 and am enjoying it on my Oly EM-10. Question about sync speed: In TTL mode the EM-10 limits sync speed to 1/160 max with this flash. Would I be able to use higher sync speeds with the 15-50 sync cord in manual mode? A sync cord was not included with the used package I bought but I can buy one at B&H. I've read that this Oly/MS-1 combo does not allow higher sync speeds but wasn't sure if that was somehow tied to TTL mode usage. Thanks.
When I got into M43 when the EM1 came out, I bought the Olympus 60mm and the Olympus FL600R for macro work. It's a good set up for macro as long as you can keep your subject high enough to avoid the shadow of the lens... not always easy to do. So, after I watched you video I made the decision to purchase this ring flash. And wow, what a flash it is! After a few shots around the house I can see it's a game changer for 1:1 work. And the fact that it's light weight AND TTL friendly, well, that's just icing on the cupcake. Can't wait to go on a bug walk tomorrow in the forest. As usual, thank you so much for the great information, David.
Hi David,I love all your videosyour comments re 4/3ds and the Pana GX7 made my decision to buy this camera easy.I still had the Metz 15 MS1 from my Nikon days.I have tried to set all items exactly as in your video but flash will not fire at all.The only exception is when I put it in slave mode? What could I have done wrong?Thank you for your great work.Cheers Martin from Australia
Great video and very helpful! now what would you recommend for shooting a small room setup with a model, or full body shot outdoors say a little farther back in distance (For the GX7 of course) - I'm looking for a wireless/off-camera light solution that allows me to move the light source away and/or around the subject
Just found your YouTube videos David. Love how you do these: Clear, practical and highly enjoyable. I've subscribed and look forwards to seeing more from you. I've learned a lot from you - so huge thanks.I really appreciate this review/tutorial in particular as I'm new to both flash and macro photography and thought the 15 MS-1 looked like the flash to get.2 Questions: I've spent 2 days digging the web and can't find an answer.I have the Olympus OMD EM1 and a new 60mm f2 lens. This filter diameter of this lens is just 46mm - smaller than any of the adaptors Metz supply. I looked at Olympus' own adaptor to use the 60mm with their own (and very pricey) macro flash system, but it doesn't specify a diameter on their or any other site I can find.. Do you know of any way to mount the Metz on the Olympus 60mm?Also - do I need anything else? Will the Metz cover supplied also work with the little flash that comes from the supplied flash with the EM1 - or is there a better way.I know I'm asking for a lot of free guidance - so thanks a lot in advance for your generosity of knowledge. If you don't have time to respond - I understand, no problems.
Enjoying your videos David, keep up the good work. I wonder, do you have any plans to do a brief video on compatible m43 hot shoe flashes or wireless flash with m43 cameras? Seems to be a bit of a technical minefield finding a third party suitable flash and triggers.
Thanks David, I was wondering how you added to the on camera flash in m4/3 now I know. Cheers
Hi David, Thank you for this video. This is first time to hear about MS-1. Actually I need a solution for close-up product photography. I have a suggestion for a new topic. Please do a video comparing bundled photo editing software from Olympus and Lumix. Currently I am Olympus user. I really like Olympus Viewer2 editing software. I have no plan to purchase other editing software, I am kind of stuck with bundled software for a number of reasons. But I would like to buy a new Lumix camera but I wonder about bundled Lumix software. Is better, worse or about the same features and functionality of Olympus bundled photo editing software? Any clues appreciated. Thank you.
2:40 I like to put the built-in flash to off when using off camera flashes. So it doesn't add to the exposure.
Another Superb video David, always learn something..!!Cheers...
-.
Gracias por la Video...yo tengo Sony...I will buy this one too :)
Hola. Sabes si esta maravilla trabaja al 100% con la Nikon D5100? Gracias!
