Let's see you go well below zero with a quilt, compared to my Carinthia Survival 1.
I had to stop at "the insulation on the bottom doesn't do anything". A person would have to be particularly dense to not understand that about half of the discomfort from sleeping on the ground, comes FROM the ground. I guess a quilt is ok if you're camping out on your grandpa's living room floor. Otherwise, give me a good pad and a good bag. And if you're actually going out somewhere that might actually be worth throwing a tent up for, if it's convenient, throwing a quilt on top or beneath the sleeping bag is also not the worst idea ever.
Wow. Pretty surprising to see how disagreeable the comments from a few years ago are considering how standard they are now for so many backpacking situations, and the only difference between this and a traditional sleeping bag is where people have drawn the line with names for some reason...
My quilt goes under my hammock... my mummy bag for above it. The zippers on my north face bag and my rei bag work every time. Whats up, zippers too much overhead for your blankey?

Sorry man, quilts have their place as do slpg bags. Sleeping bags are warm, bottom insulation fills pad voids, fewer exposed body parts. I like my quilts on wider slpg pads but despise them on narrow pads due to skjn exposure lol. Each option has its place.

I like quilts. I'm not a UL hiker; just a tent camper with claustrophobia. Even big, 80cm wide bags would make me feel stressed out to climb inside, but using a quilt instead eliminates that issue entirely. And if I _am_ cold enough that a bag would practically have been better, I just rock and wriggle until I've made myself a cosy little sausage-roll, & then adjust tightness as is absolutely required.
Strange at it may sound, while serving in the military as a grunt, 1st/16th Infantry, the best way I found to get warm and stay that way, was with a doggoned poncho liner with ponch for a shell.
quilts require one to sleep in a special way as to keep that open side, under you....and if you miss....all that heat is gone....it did not help me, and how much does a zipper weigh....
It's just as sleeping bag without the zipper. And if you lay on it, it's gonna compress just like a bag.
Just buy a wool blanket, or open your sleeping bag.
Quilt? Hell nah...WIND!I use a:-Thermarest pad (rolled tight with 2 bunjee cords),-Kelty Cosmic 20 down bag,-USGI Bivy sack (trust me on this one. Semper Fi),-Sea to Summit eVent dry compression bag (compressed tight)I used this for years as a homeless traveller after getting out of the military. I dont like messing around with sleeping systems, you can throw this down in pouring rain and be ok. You dont need a tarp under it, and you can roll it up really fast if you need to go in a hurry. But you wont get wet, worry about sticks or rocks (too much), and youll stay warm.You do not want to fall asleep in freezing conditions and your arm to hang out of a quilt

Even in a hammock i put my pad for insulation underneath me and i open sleeping bag all the way. Keeps me warm
the cost of quilts are more than the equivalent sleeping bag - shops will sell 100 bags to 1 quilt. if using a hammock you need an under blanket to stop heat loss or a good sleeping mat to stop it to the ground. other than costco all the quilts you list are over $200 to $300
you dont sleep right you turn and loose all of your heat....took my quilt and had a zipper put in....
if you have no zipper, then there is the constant worry that you have to be exactly over the opening to secure a seal....which, to me, was impossible......had a zipper added.....

Great, but for a semi professional demonstrater you should stop saying "you know"..... ermmm, you know.
This is a $330 sleeping bag that isn't even functional until you purchase 2 pads that are $120 ish each. Granted you needed a pad any how but now you are $570 dollars into a sleeping set up. Which maybe I could justify on a four season set up but this is not even that.
Can the entire unit be split into two self contained sleeping facilities should the 2 backpackers have a blazing argument?
Any chance this could fit a 46 inch pad?

as always..thanks for a clearer breakdown review for this dou-nemo bag, Beckey..the only thing I didn't like was that there wasn't any (nylon lining) that separates my (back) & the air mat.I own the nemo mezzo & it has it.I really enjoy this bag very much
