Excellent work !!! Have you tore down the heat shrink cartridge? Is it possible to re-fill it by replacing the ink ribbon from another cartridge and just add your heat shrink? Because you can buy plain cartridges quite cheap but I can't find cheap heatshrink ones.

Can somebody help me? I have bought a H107. Now, since I hate batteries, I have drilled a hole and installed a socket for adaptor plug, connected (with a schottky for polarity protection) where the cables from the battery end. Now, if I remove the batteries and plug a 9v adaptor, the H107 does not turn on and the meter senses 15v at the input. With the batteries on, it senses about 8v, 7.5v when it’s on. With a 5v adaptor, it senses 13v and still it does not turn on. Also I have tried other adaptors just in case. I feel so noob, I don’t know what I should do to use my H107 without batteries.

If this is a thermal printing process, how come the shrink tube does not change color when shrinking it with heat?

Anybody know if this will work with the Brother P-touch Extra model PT-310? It's an older model, but I like it because it has an actual keyboard. I looked by the pinch roller, and there don't seem to be any microswitches at all.
Out of interest, does your printer eat batteries when not in use? Pretty sure mine's the same as this and as I don't use mine all that often I've found that if I don't take the batteries out between uses they'll be flat in no time.
What about using a normal barcode printer (thermal transfer) , with a normal heat shrink tube ? If it works it will be very cheap , what do you think ?

A quick google search found an extremely detailed service manual PDF for my Brother P-touch 1180 label printer which includes a detailed schematic, plus very handy descriptions of how everything in the unit functions. It's well worth the download. It describes three of the cassette sensor switch indentations (referred to as ID holes) and provides a decoding matrix defining all the different cassette types with their associated switch positions. Interestingly enough the manual mentions five ID holes, but my model only has three sensor switches. I assume other models have extra switches to detect a wider range of compatible tapes. I couldn't find the service manual for the PT-H107 that you own, but the PT-1180 is compatible with both TZ & TZe tapes, so some of the information should be relevant. A quick read of the PT-H107 User Guide shows it has a Cable Label function, which could be very useful to you for labelling thicker cables where heatshrink is not possible. Heatshrink labels are only officially supported on the PT-E300 model, so it may be worth performing an extended search for that service manual. My searches have failed so far. I wonder if simply reading the User Guide to other models may unlock hidden settings and functions, as it's possible that multiple ZTe tape compatible models share the same firmware.
I did this with an older Brother printer, it uses small pin type switches and holes on the cartridges to identify tapes. This has all the combinations https://archive.org/details/printermanual-brother-pt-2300-2310-2450-service-manual/page/n77 you want the cartrage to think it's a non laminated one. I don't know if some manufacturers code these properly so check the operation before changing anything.

I works pretty good. I kinda thought it wouldn't be intelligent like a chip on a inkjet printer cartridge. I suppose you could put clear cellotape over it to protect the print, or maybe even clear heatshrink. lol

Good job. If you really want to protect the text you can add a 2nd layer of transparent tubing.
I had a Brother label printer for several years. One day it stopped printing and I opened it up and located a transistor that failed. I contacted Brother and asked to purchase a replacement transistor. They said I needed to have a qualified technician repair the unit. The cost was more than a new printer was selling for!
How do the labels fair in hot environments? I'm looking for a label printer that can print laminated barcode labels. But I'm keeping some parts I want to label in a shed that can get up to 60°C in summer. Thermal paper is a no go but this seems like decent option. The only other option seem to be to order custom asset labels.
Clive! - I use these machines a lot for aircraft placarding. Please don't buy the (Brother) Chinese copies!!! - The glue gives way (in time) and you just placard the whole floor, the letters fade into some sort of Chinese swearing dialect whatever, and they will give you Coronavirus anyway...
OK - I can't watch the WHOLE thing. Tell me it CHAIN prints like my P-Touch does. That way you don't keep throwing away those little starter stubs. You just keep creating and printing labels and it chops them as it goes in the right place. That way the only stub you throw away is on the first label of the session. My P-Touch USB's to the PC and so you can use any font on the computer . Here in the USA I wouldn't try and say there was a standard polarity for barrel power plugs. All bets are off here. Check every time.
Hi Clive, like you I needed to upgrade my labelling (exactly same as yours by the way) and got a far better one for not more than I paid for the old one. I don’t have the special version you have mine is more sales&marketing focused. They have improved so much and having QWERTY is so much better, mine is also wider than yours and typing is so very easy on it. Cheers Clive Bob

Most of the time I see center-negative power jacks, they have a yellow ring instead of black. Weird they didn't do that here. Good video!
The WiFi version of the Brother Printer E550W is more useful. You can format labels on your PC and transmit them to the label printer.

I find a lot of guitar effects pedals, Keyboards and Recording equipment have centre negative PS. I've never figured out why.
ProTip™ for cable flags: Fold the label around the cable without it actually touching the cable, line up the ends (perfectly, of couse!), then pinch your fingers together and slide them towards the cable. If the ends are well aligned, all the rest will just fall into place and if you're not completely off, it will also be perfectly centered.
FYI!! DO NOT bother using the cheap clones for wire wraps, it will start to delaminate within 6 months and you will have a mess in your data closet as the will start unwrapping. Also I do not use the clones for direct sunlight applications as it will fade way way faster then the OEM. I use the clones for everything else.
I have the exactly same model as my daily label printer at work(I'm a telecommunications technician and I label cables with it). We use that empty printed piece to go around the cable, so it won't go to waste.
My label printer has a metallic tape cartridge that is useful for making light up labels because the light shines through the text

Clive or anyone else have any opinion on this type of printer vs the likes of Brady and Dymo? The others claim to have "laminated" tape as well, but I know that they don't do it the same way as the Brother does. Longevity of labels, etc?

i just put 6 AAA batteries , next day it says low battery, then what should i do? change the batteries??? but i just put them less than 24 hour.
