I think the biggest thing that India gained from the Tejas was the knowledge about how to design, manufacture and test a fighter jet. On the other hand, JF-17 was developed by China.
Tejas naval prototype is already available and is new variants Tejas Mk2, Tejas Max for combat air teaming with unmanned CATS airplane, Unmanned tejas is in development.It can carry Israely,french,NATO,Russian,Indian weapons. The trainer variant LIFT aircraft is currently being proposed to US and Australian Navy for its UJT aircraft replacement programme It can mimic many types of NATO and Russian aircrafts Also the g limits are enhanced in the FoC variants.
India struck a deal to manufacture ASRAAM missiles locally. So probably almost all our fights will be using ASRAAM in the future including the SU 30's. I don't think we will be using python missiles anytime soon.

Tejas Mk1's first squadron will be done in 2029.. so its pretty much on paper right now! GE engine will be used in MK1 .. current version doesnt use that... current Tejas has combat range of 500. and avionics mentioned all are from MK1 paper jet. They dont exist in current version

In Tejas for Wvr we have Archer, Python5 and ASRAAM for BVR we have R77, derby and indigenous Astra Mk1/2/3(similar to superior versions of aim120)

With 40 years of development, the only thing that is Indian made is the airframe and landing wheels with unlimited technical help from Western powers and they end up buying Rafales. If they are struggling to produce a single fighter, how can this be a success? Even when they do get to final production in 2026, will it be on par with the Rafale?

The issue with tejas is that it is to late to the game. They started the project back in 1980 and so far only 22 planes have been produced that are at best basic 4th generation planes. That’s too little too late.

I think he's talking about the Gripen E which isnt operational yet, and has a more powerful engine. "Gripen is a bit heavier" Gripen E weighs 8tons, tejas mk1 weighs 6.5. Bit heavier, my foot. He seems to be doing a review of the tejas, but all the time, he keeps praising the gripen. Strange.

India made tejas mk1 just for replace old mig21 as interceptor , actually tejas mk1a and tejas mk2 are real multi role 4.5 generation fighters with best weapons like brahmos NG cruise missiles , meteor AA missiles , Astra AA missiles , scalp cruise missiles , Israeli i derby AA missiles , r 73 , r77 , MICA , Israeli spice 2000 bombs , hammer bombs , DRDO saaw and many....It's is better option than Sweden saab fighter ....India will include its indigenous UTTAM aesa radar and JV jet engines to replace Israeli AESA and american F404 after second update ....
Well Tejas MK2 is the plane that india should have build in place of LCA tejas..Tejas is a good jet but it is late..At least it should have been put into service in 2010..
It seems uploader is lot bended towards Swedish Gripen fighter jet, that he thinks our Tejas is obsolete design but fails to understand that this is our revival efforts towards our indigenous weapon industry. This program funded in 1993 and 1st prototype built in 2001, After that we tested more than 3 engines including our own built and then we selected GE F404 engine and built 42 Tejas Mk1 variants and 2 Mk1A (neval) variant. For you it's easy to say dump it, for us it's everything. We're working on 5th generation fighter jets and you'll get to see them in skies. Till then enjoy.

It is an obsolete aircraft unfortunately. The design is completely outdated. It will be a lot easier for the Indian Airforce to adopt the Gripen from Sweden. An Aircraft roughly in the same category as the Tejas Mk.2. In the end this will save the Air Force a lot of money. Dump the Tejas and start designing a fifth / sixth generation aircraft, do not waste any money on this antiquated design.
Indian Air Force so far has only ordered 40 in IOC and FOC Configuration. No further orders have been placed till date. Mk2 won't be seen before it becomes obsolete or the project would get sabotaged
The Tejas has (or had rather) a great potential with one of the worlds biggest military budgets, enormous resources for research and development and endless with cheap labour. But still I have some doubts about this aircraft. Every time the Tejas is almost finished for production, they Indians decide to change things or implement some new tech. Or awaits some indigenously developed component that never get finished in time. And then it gets delayed again. And again. So it all ends up with India having to import more foreign military equipment.
Stfu. What was the use of the development of f35? That billions of dollars and 20 years of development was done to replace light combat jets. Now it's so costly, carries less arms, expensive sorties and the problem of tech falling into enemy hands that they can't even use them to replacement of old jets.
Tejas was not rejected it was a test bed for developing future technology for carrier. Based twin engine fighter aircraft.
