I think the biggest thing that India gained from the Tejas was the knowledge about how to design, manufacture and test a fighter jet. On the other hand, JF-17 was developed by China.

With 40 years of development, the only thing that is Indian made is the airframe and landing wheels with unlimited technical help from Western powers and they end up buying Rafales. If they are struggling to produce a single fighter, how can this be a success? Even when they do get to final production in 2026, will it be on par with the Rafale?

The issue with tejas is that it is to late to the game. They started the project back in 1980 and so far only 22 planes have been produced that are at best basic 4th generation planes. That’s too little too late.

It seems uploader is lot bended towards Swedish Gripen fighter jet, that he thinks our Tejas is obsolete design but fails to understand that this is our revival efforts towards our indigenous weapon industry. This program funded in 1993 and 1st prototype built in 2001, After that we tested more than 3 engines including our own built and then we selected GE F404 engine and built 42 Tejas Mk1 variants and 2 Mk1A (neval) variant. For you it's easy to say dump it, for us it's everything. We're working on 5th generation fighter jets and you'll get to see them in skies. Till then enjoy.

It is an obsolete aircraft unfortunately. The design is completely outdated. It will be a lot easier for the Indian Airforce to adopt the Gripen from Sweden. An Aircraft roughly in the same category as the Tejas Mk.2. In the end this will save the Air Force a lot of money. Dump the Tejas and start designing a fifth / sixth generation aircraft, do not waste any money on this antiquated design.
Indian Air Force so far has only ordered 40 in IOC and FOC Configuration. No further orders have been placed till date. Mk2 won't be seen before it becomes obsolete or the project would get sabotaged
The Tejas has (or had rather) a great potential with one of the worlds biggest military budgets, enormous resources for research and development and endless with cheap labour. But still I have some doubts about this aircraft. Every time the Tejas is almost finished for production, they Indians decide to change things or implement some new tech. Or awaits some indigenously developed component that never get finished in time. And then it gets delayed again. And again. So it all ends up with India having to import more foreign military equipment.
Stfu. What was the use of the development of f35? That billions of dollars and 20 years of development was done to replace light combat jets. Now it's so costly, carries less arms, expensive sorties and the problem of tech falling into enemy hands that they can't even use them to replacement of old jets.
