this review is super helpful thanks a ton :)
Don't know how much Peak Design pays Youtube? Peak Design products just pop out when you search bags or tripod, that's insane!
Subscribed. Starting out in the industry, and this is one of the best review videos I’ve seen...
Pro (ish) photographer chiming in here. Agreed on many of your points . I have one of the larger Benro tripods, and these offer an incredible value for the money. They’re basic and have less bells and whistles than many competitors, but features on budget tripods also mean more potential points of failure . I think the build quality of their aluminium units is impressive . What brought me here is because I’m considering picking up this model as a backup in order to have a more portable unit for those times where I don’t feel like schlepping around the oversized beast. These things can take a beating and are crazy impressive for the money.
Does it have a cellphone holder if i want to take a pic from my own phone if I don’t have a camera
This was a pretty good review, thank you!
Great review! I've been using one of the first gen Benro Travel Angel Carbon Fiber tripod for over 8 years now, the legs flop around and tightening with the allen key doesn't work for me anymore. I believe the magnesium cam that attaches to the leg has worn out. Now I'm looking for a tripod replacement. (Or perhaps a part replacement) But after doing much research, it seems like many other tripods don't last a couple months or even 2 years... Mine lasted until now, and I do use it frequently! I guess I'll be buying a Benro again someday!
Hi, the name of that tripod is angel travel? can you tell me the name? thanks
I have this tripod and I don't like the central column because doesn't lock enough tight. Moreover I'd like ti be able to detach part of it to save weight if I don't need al of its height. The legs and the ball head B0 perform well. I still have an Benro Go series and I like that one but its heavier too.
Great presentation ! I appreciate your passion and expertise. Thank you for taking the time to create this informative and enjoyable video. I'm looking forward to seeing more ! Cheers
Thank u so much, good review
Really love your genuinity! Been browsing around for tripods for a while now and finally found this vid lol. Really great vid, thanks!' Makes me miss those podcast episodes with you and peter too... :D
Really usefull! You've a new subscriber ;) Is it possible to replace the head with the Benro S6 rotule for video? Thanks!
Was liking this video but wishing for a monopod build in like a saw somewhere once… the. You pulled it out! BOOM. Sold! Wait. One more thing. Walking stick!!!
Was searching for tripods and ofcourse Tom has a video on it :D
Hi Tom. Great review! Just wondering if the ballhead can be removed? I was planning to buy a star tracker next year and was thinking of buying a good tripod ahead of it.. Plannign to use the Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer Pro with this tripod (the 22lbs capacity one: FTA28AB1) . So idea was to remove the ballhead and attach the star tracker to the tripod.. Could you please advice if that's possible? Would really help me!Also, how does this tripod compare to another one of Benro's creation: TAD28AIB2? This too seems like a potential candidate!
If you are in college you can get a great deal on one of these through the B&H student program! I think it is around $175?
Benro makes the meFoto A1350, which I bought in Osaka in ‘15. Comes with a case, with both rubber and stake feet. The big thing for me is that the meFoto in the case fits in a Carry-on bag easily. Try that with the Benro big brother. I think the meFoto is the best travel tripod. . . .Unless you’ve got a hasselblad with 400mm lenses.
What is the model number of this piece?
I grabbed the 48CXL last year. My feelings on the tripod pretty much mirror your own, except one thing; the leg angle locks. Not having spring assisted locks is a poor design choice in my opinion. Can't really understand why they chose to omit the spring locks.
How is this tripod holding up now? :)
Don’t mess around with Benro. Their stuff is next level. The blues have it because we only use Benro or sirui.
How is this tripod holding up?
I decided on the Induro CLT303, I have a little benro travel tripod for hiking. Both amazing pieces of kit and the benro is nuts for a £99 tripod.
A little WD-40 goes a long way bud.
Why Americans say "just 410$", os it anything to do with show off or these people are really rich and wealthy??
Do the legs lock in place when you open them?
Hahaha... 1:07 "Smooth"
for travel i use the Tycka 58'' very good
This video was so funny...I was laughing to myself cause I was like this guy is so lazy, cause you actually criticized that the legs didn’t fall down on its own 😂! Just joking but great video, it kept me entertained!!!
Check the iFootage TC6/5 its almost same like Benro but without negatives you mention (levers, reverse centre column for shooting upside down). https://youtu.be/oix5N85XMUI
Looks like you are endorsing the Benro tripod.
Thanks for the review! Just ordered one. I had the carbon fibre version of the Manfrotto 190. Don't like the clip as they pinch my fingers and hands all the time; don't like the mechanism for releasing the legs to pivot out; they stick and are either very stiff or too loose. Anyway, it'll be a backup tripod. I can't wait to use my new tripod with the Benro geared head.
Im actually reading up on this tripod in the #Digitalphotographermagazine issue 222 which came out on top against the #manfrotto #Gitzo & #Novo respectively, along with the B3 ballhead $590 all in ..£445 in the UK ..stated they gave it no minus points ...its possibly what im going for after years of abuse of my manfrotto ...but the manfrotto MT055CXPRO4 has a good write up with the XPRO ballhead also.
Center Columns suck
For goodness sake, clean that creaky Manfrotto. I've been using my 055 in salt water for years, always wash afterwards, and it looks almost as good as new.
Only 410
None of these are affordable! Ugh! (Again)
None of these are affordable! Ugh!
When tripod is in folded position, are the legs locked up in place or could you just swivel them all straight down without pressing a button?
Great video...who shot this?
Hi! Mads love your videos. I just bought same tripod and ballhead, can’t wait for it to arrive this weekend. What tripod do you use for travelling?
I've spent the last 58 hours trying to decide on a tripod because I recently bought a star tracker (Turns up soon) and wanted a sturdy but stable tripod. I looked at many tripods one being a Manfrotto MT055XPRO3, it had been recommended to me several times in different areas of the Internet that I asked. However at the price costing almost 200 in my currency I held off. I then discovered the Manfrotto MT055CXPRO3 but this time it cost 299. I was thinking about a carbon fibre tripod for a few reasons and one of them was "What if in the future I do want to be able to use a tripod in water". The aluminium I felt might end up causing me issues. I wasn't really worried about the weight of the actual tripod as for me a 3KG aluminium tripod is nothing, it's like three bags of sugar. I then stumbled over this tripod and it just started ticking the boxes I wanted and more, Carbon Fibre [yes], comes with extras for 'FREE' (not sold separately) [yes], can get low to the floor for macro [yes], bulky enough legs to dampen vibrations [yes], lighter [yes], more weather resistent that aluminium [yes], just ticking. Story short after doing some researching, watching some videos and looking at reviews I decided on this tripod, I feel happy with the choice and look forward to it coming, just hoping the holding off pays off and it really is a good tripod that I love to use and one that will stay with me for at least ten years. I look after my stuff and considering it isn't 'cheap' with some TLC (Tender Loving Care) I hope it lasts me a long time and helps me capture some beautiful stuff. Good video Peter and hope the tripod has served you well coming up for a year.
Watching this on a dreary overcast January day. What lovely sunshine (and photos of course, as always!) 🌞
How do people get low angle shots with that center column in the way?
The level on the tripod I would call a "Spirit Level" in English
Great video! What's you thoughts about the Benro B3 Ballhead?
Awesome Video, how do you like your Benro ballhead B3 ?
I have the same tripod, the TMA38CL Mach 3, that I use with a BH40 ballhead for travel. And it's no where near the quality of my Gitzo carbon fiber tripods which are about twenty years old and work perfectly. In fact I sent the first one I ordered back to B&H because the leg locks and legs were so sticky and gritty. The second one was better, but had the same issues. The first trip stuff started falling off of the tripod. So, I'm not a big fan of this tripod. But, you get what you pay for and it was much less than Gitzo or RRS tripods and it fits in my checked luggage. So, I'll continue to use it.
Really great video! I love the fact that it was sort of a 2 in 1. I’m looking to buy the benro do you still like it?
Hi guys any advice using a Benro FTA28CV1 in Iceland enviroment??
I have that exact set up and LOVE it. Great value and well built. Recommend it highly.
Very nice video as always Mads . but please get something to cover that white lens!!!
i have the mack 3 48 and i LOVE LOVE LOVE it... never let me down at all
It's called a bubble level in English Mads. I almost bought a Mach 3 but I don't like centre columns and also like to do panos (Benro could only offer option of a Levelling base) so I got a Rollei Rock Solid Alpha (came with spikes) plus a bowl adapter and for lighter travel I've also got an ifootage TC7 fastbowl (has spikes built in!) courtesey of seeing Thomas hHaton use one for his panos. I went for 3 sections not 4 for both tripods for the reasons you mentioned. Time will tell how the Rollei stands up to use but can't fault Benro's reputation. Enjoy your Mach 3 :-)
Great video. BTW, the "built in levelling indicator" is usually called a spirit level in English :)
I recently did the unthinkable and left my Manfrotto on the beach! I bought the Benro Travel Angel to go to the Japan Rugby World Cup back in October and it's a brilliant piece of kit but wanted something heavier for those more challenging weather conditions. Weighed up Benro against Gitzo but simply can't justify the huge difference in price for similar specifications. Took delivery of the same model featured here 3 weeks ago and I'm so pleased with it. The quality really is extremely good!
If you decide to use spikes (they are good when you’re on frozen ground), then make sure to use some grease so that they don’t get stuck (should also do that with the rubber feet) - especially when you shoot in or near salt water. If you would ignore the price, then you should look at the Gitzo GT3543XLS which is at the max 207cm, then you only need to extend 2 sections to reach 150cm .. weight is the same as a the Benro, but cost around 850€. I’m using it with the Benro B3 ball head.
I have a smaller Benro and love it, deffo will be going for another if I want to go bigger
my Benro is a couple of years old but I quickly got tired of the action of the twist locks and went back to my Gitzo.
Love Benro. Have 2 mach3 & travel pro. Both great tripods Beautiful images in video
