These headphones have the best sound quality, but the worst build quality. Get the Sj33 and Sj55 instead.
Its ok to laptop
How do these compare to the s100's?
I've bought those in Tokyo for 13€ approximately, best deal ever!!! really a pity I did not buy 1 or 2 more 😊
Alright, these headphones are probably the best you'll ever get for a budget price. I'm not an audiophile, but I have compared a lot of headphones and earplugs to know what's really cheap and what's not, and I guarantee you that these are probs the best you'll ever come for under fifty bucks.
One of the biggest pros to this is the lightweightedness. Despite having no padding on the top, the fact that this is all made of plastic...actually doesn't need any more paddings. Yes, it'd feel nice but I reckon it'd just add more unnecessary pricing.
Also these are super comfy, but since these kind of...sit on your head and ears, it's probs best when you're walking slowly or sitting still. They're not super tight or loose, so I'd advice not using these when running like mad or dancing, etc. But gentle head bobbing/banging will do.
I also think there's virtually no sound leakage, or any leakage in. I've tried some cheap ass ones that are a tiny bit more expensive than this and they felt almost open - there was no isolation, despite being padded. But these are very quiet.
I guess the cons are the fact that it IS made entirely of plastic. After 3 years of using it almost everyday to and from work, the top plastic bit just snapped all of a sudden. I guess I yanked it pretty hard a few times...but yeah it snapped and basically super glue and tape did nothing to hold it together. BUT I did use this for 3 years for under fifty bucks.
I'd say if you're looking for something cheap, but with decent sound quality, loud volume and mobility (this baby can bend and rotate like crazy, so you can put them in even a handbag or large clutch bag).
Ps. Everybody has their own idea of their favourable bass sound - well, I quite like some good bass in mine rather than those neutral ones. It's not too bassy like those professional headphones, but these definitely do generate more bass than other headphones in this price.
Whoever say betas is cheaper
Please get ur mind straight
I got these headphone on sale
I thought it's a really cheap headphone because of the plastic headband
But it's actually not
And I love djing by the way (which i developed a interest after I got the headphones [and I didn't even know these were for djing])
So I've been using these headphones for about more than 1 1/2 year
And I've changed the wire 2 times now because I used it really rough
But I'm just planning to get a beats right now
But I truly suggest someone buying these
It's not like I won't use these anymore
Just ill use the beats in music production
These headphones are awesome the sound is bangin good
Awesome for it's price guys u gotta have this
Dont dissapoint too much? is that good?
I got mine for $80 in Singapore. Singapore's very very expensive. :( a Ferrari in the us is not even half the price of a Honda car 😔
How do I clean the ear pads? and is it ok to take it off from headphone itself?
They sound good with a nice punch of bass
They are very light in weight
Amazing headphones. Sound quality is very good. I really love it.
So I'm planning to buy that SJ11 soon.. But still I have a doubt in terms of the build-quality.. Is the wire/cord okay...? I usually put my player with the plug connected inside the pocket of my pants while I'm on the go.. I want something that will last atleast a year or let say until this Christmas.. Is this a good choice in terms of the wire/cord..?
Audio-technica, gives superb audio quality for a cheap price. But because of the cheap price tag, they lack abit in build quality. And it's the reason why I love them. In my opinion, headphones got to sound good, and feel good. Anything else is just a bonus.
I'm listening to thisi n audio technica sj11s
Practical frequency response must be 35 Hz to 15-18 KHz or thereabouts, with funny peaks (adjusted to HRTF) around 1-2 KHz. Also on the squeaky/speedy side with regards to dynamics and tone, as most small headphones. A-T drivers are pretty good, but small unstabilised headphones are still that :-| They ought to shine when modded though.
They look nice.
Downside: they're tiny and supra. Upside: 36-mm. drivers must be sweet and dynamic.
"22-KHz" frequency response is, of course, drivel. In reality they must go up to about 15-18 KHz, tops. Headphone frequency response measurement is a tad difficult as it really has to be measured relative to one's own HRTF, a "plain" frequency response graph measured with microphones/sine sweeps doesn't tell much as headphones exclude head damping of high frequencies and the like.
what is your opinion about its bass???
I got that problem once, I just let it rest through the night and the next day and It worked.
How does this compare to the DCA Ether2?
.. and yes, (forgot to add) 5k's trebles were piercing my ears with hdvd800! (not hd800S).
Thank you for your review! I auditioned them few days ago in the store vs hd800S. 800S sounds more natural, whereas 5k sounds "dry"(too much high frequencies i guess). The DAC-AMP was hdvd800, which is bright, i believe.. So maybe with another AMP the sound of 5k is less dry. Still dont know which one to take.... Did someone try them with audiogd 28.38 ?? Well.. probably 800S were much more burned-in/wamed up already in the store, whereas 5k werent. Any idea about typical burn-in time for 5k ?
This headphone just looks very very cool and elegant at the same time
Imagine gaming with these . Why no one makes a guide for gaming with headphones in that price range?
If I were to buy a flagship, I would buy an audeze
Hello, terrible hair man, I feel you as I have awful hair myself. Therefore, I am very picky about the headband, and will happily buy this model in a few years when I will be able to afford.
I was in Japan a couple years ago and listened to these in a store, plugged into just my iphone. I primarily listen to string quartets and other acoustic music, and I was blown away. I could hear all 4 instruments so clearly it was amazing. I'd like to pick these up some day.
I like Audio Technica headphones and as regards the design these are very much my thing. I will try these out.
I have the 1000's which are great, and I thought they were super-expensivet at £600 (current UK price). Are the 5000's £1500 better? 🤨The law of diminishing returns is brutal.
I have auditioned both ADX5000 and Final D8000 and since you reviewed them both I am curious what you think about sound signature similarities between those two. Obviously D8000 is a much better in tonality and bass response (which is quite amazing). However, It seems like ADX5000 could be mistaken for D8000 little brother. At least those were my impressions. ADX5000 sounded fantastic with tube amp so it’s a better match for me. It’s also a LOT lighter and offer amazing comfort. Airiness is also amazing. Never heard anything like that. Any thoughts? Amazing reviews and I agree with your assessment of ADX5000 almost a %100. ADX5000 are a lot more balanced, much better bass and midrange over HD800s in my opinion. They sound similar but HD800s without EQ is still a flawed headphone. Thank you in advance.
Been a big fan of Audio Technica for at least a decade now. They're my go-to headphones ATH-AD700X and 1000X. I have tried other headphones like Sennheiser HD6XX, Beyerdynamics, HIFIMAN HE4XX, and more. I keep coming back to Audio Technica. I would love to own an ADX5000 one day.
If they put the effort on that case to the actually build quality I may consider buying this. I want a headphone not suitcase.
If a company wants to use proprietary connectors, I feel like they should provide a 4 pin balance cable as well.
Hi Andrew, this is the video attracted me to this channel. Your review is right to the point. Love the no BS style. Could you also review Beyerdynamics T1 Gen 2.? Thinking about buying it + SMSL SP200 and SMSL 300 MKII. would love to hear what you think. ; )
I have been listening them in my system. Anemic empty sound. Nice soundstage, comfortable. Wouldn't buy them
Could you please compare ADX5000 to DCA Ether 2 ? Both are the flagships ( around the same price ) with the weight below 300 grams. Thank you.

This video sold me! I went with the black ones as well! Picking these up and doing my own review over on my channel!
If you are reading this comment you are amazing, please use my link to buy the audio technica m50xbt: https://amzn.to/2Xnju5Q and help me out. Thanks for the support.
Have the original M50X for a few weeks now. Excellent phones. Use them for general listening and for tracking in semi pro studio. Very happy with them. I purchased the blue tooth version and am very disappointed to the extent that I'm going to return them on sound alone. Compare for example "One Step Up" by Bruce Springsteen. On the M50X the bass is tight and controlled. On the BT version the bass is bloomy to the extent you can hardly make out the individual notes. The soundstage is also just so bad by comparison. If you want to use them as a reverence for music making avoid the M50XBT. Just my 2 cents worth.
4:39 I feel like it's worth mentioning that there are plenty of third party cables for the regular M50x with the locking mechanism. I bought a braided cable for mine that worked great.
These vs Shure Aonic 50?
These are fucken trash man, the included cable is short AF and not even good quality. They also crackle and are bass heavy. My sennheiser 380 pro better anyday. These audio technicas are $179 for what a good packaged box? i'm returning this trash.
I used Bose QC35 II for over 2 years now and I decided to pull the trigger on M50XBT and I don't regret it. Maybe the difference in sound quality is not massive but for someone who can appreciate good sound quality, ATH is better. It is hard to explain the difference. Using ATH's compared to Bose is just like eating scrambled eggs vs eating scrambled eggs done on bacon fat. There is not much difference but a bit more fun. Keep in mind that ATH's don't have ANC.
Let me understand you better, you bought studio/DJ headphones for you phone.
Do you hear hissing with them when BT is on?
Usually a sound test is a good thing to have on a headphone review, but good work
My only complaint about these headphones is the headband could use a little more padding. After an hour or so they can start to get uncomfortable but other than that they are amazing
You really like to talk!!
Is the 50xBT good with amps? I'm thinking of buying it for casual listening and playing electric guitar
I had 2 pairs these breaks every 18-24months, plastics hinge crumble and they are difficult to repair.
Do they have proper 1/4" jacks?
Hey guys, i bought a m50 bt recently and the right fone is facing the other side. i cant seem to turn it 360 degrees so it faces my ear, and I am a bit hesitant to force it as it may break. Anyone knows how to fix it? Or this was a mistake while
The fone was being built?
Why not an binaural ANC test over here?
A lot of your review here ends with "if you liked ATH-M50X, you will like this".... well.. What about for someone that never owned an M50X??
I have no idea what you mean when you say the fit and the feel are the same as the standard M50X.
i had the m50x for a year and i had big problems with them pushing on my ears. it was actually rather painfull after more than one hour of use so thats something for people with big ears to look out for
Awesome sound, poor quality, but the earcups and headband material "leather" It's awful.
Just thought I would point something out - Gun metal grey, blue and purple are limited editions not standard stock carried by AT.
Never had any issues with the Ear cups myself and I own multiple pairs of these lol.
I think a good point just to point out that the M50xBT to me the M50xBT seem to have a little more low end than the M50x even Audio Technica admitted the drivers weren't identical.
These are made to shine with attention to detail and if your in the mix thats what you want, for me weather I am in the field recording on a GH5 and using these for monitoring or DJing down at the local or what ever these have made me a better producer, better mix engineer, and these live on my desk. People say these are high on bass but I don't find them high on base they shine at separation and they shine in sibilant and if your tracking vocals, monitoring or producing these are you perfect pair and no these aren't getting upgraded this year new limited edition planned for release in a couple of months!!
I just bought them. Im tired of my Bose soundlink
How about the M60x?
How is the Soundstage? Does it feel wide or narrow? important to immerse yourself into the music, otherwise it's not fun
Mate... sharper mids and highs and stronger bass cannot be all at the same time, otherwise it's just... amplification)) You absolutely should not have changed the earpads in these headphones! You've completely ruined the sound simply by changing the earpads which is a no go for the M50x! Any earpad that differs in size and/or material from the factory pads ruins the sound signature of the M50x - that's a well known fact for a decade. That's why you started hearing weird coloration that prevents you from doing any editing work. By default, the M50x is made exactly as an all-rounder monitoring and editing headphone. I'm a sound engineer and I work with them for many years. However with these pads you're actually right when you say these are not suitable for editing anymore. I'd say, neither for pleasure. Although, the pleasure might be different for everyone.
overhyped headphones. returned them after 5 minutes
Good review thanks 👌
Ive bought these twice now, always quality
Good job broo keep doin it 👏
I just got these this video really helped
Normally dont ever comment but i gotta show some love for a promising new channel. Great video dude! All clearly stated important info with no filler or shilling, very well spoken and professional, no background music (which can be a plus, but is often overbearing or annoying), and good presentation. Get some better lighting and youre basically a top-tier tech channel.
This video was the deciding factor for me in purchasing these. Also i appreciate the tip about the ear cups, something i never wouldve thought of. I picked those up too, and they straight up look nicer and better quality. Have a good one and keep it up!
Do the replacement earcups change the sound quality of the headphones? There is no differences in the lows, mids, and highs?
I have ATH-M40x for few years and some say that this version sounds much better than ATH-M50x.
I really like to use them on my PS5 and Xbox.
Thx man , I just bought these , they haven't arrived yet and I'm really curious if I made a mistake or not , and I guess I made the right choice :)
I consider u have Not used any good headphone ,otherwise u would Not recommend them for music
For music listening they Are garbage, if u Need to hear every Detail in Gaming they Are Good But still Not immersive or enjoyable
