The Zenfone 3 5.2 and 5.5 have gotten updates for Android Oreo and ZenUi 4.0, which significantly lengthens its life span. I got my Zenfone 3 last September 2016, and its still looks and performs better than most smartphones at its current price range in 2018. And its a good thing ASUS went with USB type C as it future proofs the phone. In 2016, it may have seen a tad overpriced, but in 2018 its a damn good midrange phone (minus the bezel less design of course, but build quality is still top notch).
It's selling for 12k is it worth it?

I bought an Asus Zenfone 3 Max and have been using it for just a few days, and the case is metal not glass.(?), and it is hard to hold on to, being so thin and slippery, and I don't like the ugly squashed blob emojis. It's my first android so lots to get used to. My Windows phone was simpler. I found your review very helpful in making my decision. I got it for only $200. CAD, so a good price. I'm not sure I'm happy with it though.

Phones aren't either render farms or even gaming rigs. The priority for any smartphone is to have butter smooth ui, a pair of fine shooters, no heating issues, HQ calling and some modern geeky features to ease up our daily chores. That's it.
