This motherboard is a beast and a stable working horse.
*NOTE* - Most people are better off on the consumer level platforms, I have a comparison of i7-8700K vs Ryzen 7 1700 here - https://youtu.be/iXqfaQU7UzE
Unless you really need the features of X299 or X399, your money will go much further on the mainstream platforms reviewed there.
U shouldnt buy amd cuz u dont need those threads for gaming. Also the lower clock speed lowers ur fps. For rendering? Lol if u still render with a cpu. Gpus are like 5x faster
Intel X series is dead.
I prefer EVGA and Intel, AMD is going to burn out fast they always do
"Does this ram work on ASUS ZENITH EXTREME ALPHA motherboard and AMD TREADRIPPER 2990 WX Processor..??"
For ASUS ZENITH EXTREME ALPHA and AMD TREADRIPPER 2990WX PROCESSOR there are no RAM hitting 3600 frequency on QVL.. All are below 3000MHz.. As ASUS ZENITH EXTREME ALPHA has XMP 2.0 Feature on it.. can Trident Z Neo or Trident Z Royal would b suitable.. As ROYAL complies with both intel and Amd mobo would it be safer to go for it out of QVL..
Very professional as always.
Love your videos as you explain everything very articulately. I'm in the U.K. and love your no nonsense serious approach to what we all want to know and understand.
Happy new year to you man and thankyou for your great sharing of knowledge 👍🏻
i9-9900K or i9-9820X?
I hate that all those X299 mobos don´t have HDMI or displayport outs, they should at least have two video outs. Why is that? If you don´t care about gaming and just want the board for a workstation, you are forced to buy a videocard. And all those boards use optical SPDIF, why not offer the coaxial out too? Optical have less quality than coaxial, at least offer the SPDIF out headers on the mobo, like gigabyte does.. Most of those IO on the back are never used... At least put something usable in there.
The only videos that get straight to the point. Love it.
Wonderful, Tech Deals is one of the best Hardware's adviser on You Tube. So clear and always focused on the point. Your review about EVGA 1070 FTW led me to buy it with no concerns.
You bring up a lot of great points. I don't see a reason for X299 until these new chips that are looking to be of great value for the prices. (:
I7 9800x or i9 9900k?
I know the 9900k has slightly better benchmarks, 9800x is slightly more expensive but uses the x299 chipset. Really don’t know what to get considering the 9900k is probably the last card that uses the 1151 socket.
As time goes by x299 looks better and better. I got ASRock Extreme 4 x299 for $159 (Sale) and also got i7 7820x for $350 also on sale running 4.8Ghz where temp goes no more than 65C under Prime 95. All together amazing platform better than Ryzen or mainstream Intel.
wow! i love this guy's reviews...He is HIGHLY professional
Are the new 9th gen i9s going to make these 2066 i9s obsolete? They have better power consumption and look very similar and cheaper :/
Looking to build a new rig for heavy rendering etc.
All these mother board models get me confused.
1200 for a CPU lol. The price of fucking PC components has literally gone off the railes. I remember back in the P4 Prescott and Northwood day's the best MOBO an Asus P4C800 was 110 bucks and the P4P second best was 89 bucks. The processors were cheap too like a couple hundred. Only the Extreme chips cost close to a grand. Now having MOBOS cost 300 400 bucks on avg is fucking insane and overpriced bullshit. Intel is just price gouging and it's because customers put up with it. There equipment should cost much less. Video Cards too. The best video card back then was an 8800gt was 500 bucks and that was a ton.
I've just bought Intel x299
chipset atx pro with
Intel i7 7800x 6 core 4gh
240mm enclosed liquid cooler
16gb DDR4 core
500gb SATA3 SSD 420MB/S
nvidia GTX1080 8gb
750w 80 plus gold power supply
With windows 10 64bit home edition. I have no idea about computers just got over serious lag during games and making music, am I going to hsve any problems with my selection and what should I hsve changed any help is appreciated.
best motherboard for i7-8700k with 2 1080ti for gaming and video render in 4k?
Brilliant review. You just answered my question. At 9:02 You say you have 64gb of RAM, and use more than 50% for video editing, well when I do 3D simulations or fire or smoke sims, it eats RAM, so clearly I need more than 32gb. Thank you Tech Deals.
Hi, on WS X299 PRO/SE, can you tell me which LAN port is used to IPMI/iKVM?
I recently got the Asus WS X299 pro / se. The motherboard has a slot for a MicroSD Card. I can't find anywhere that requires that SDcard. what is the function? Where do I activate it? Where is it visible, in the Bios or in the OS? Does anyone know anything about this? even Asus service couldn't help me.
Having problems with my Rampage VI Extreme repeatedly locking system.... What do you think about replacing it with: "WS X299 SAGE/10G" ?
Great video, just what I was looking for! Thanks!
I am building a WS with this m/b and I was only wondering if I can use a Corsair Dominator RGB QUAD Kit 64GB 3600MHz (CMT64GX4M4K3600C18) with this m/b. It's not listed in the QVL, although other corsair similar Rams are. Is that a problem? I would appreciate your opinion Laurent. Thanks again!
you don't know the quality of this mb, a dwarf babbling!
This is really cool way of making videos. Your sound effects make the videos easier to follow. Good ways that you go about differentiating yourself from other Tech Tubers. You have a fan.
u.2 is not sata connector.
Very good information, I use my for editing video and rendering Cinema 4D using an XEON quad core CPU.
Thx for the detailed information
Nice video. Im fan of Asus. I always trust Asus. I'm gonna build 7980ex. Next week
you just told us what it has, but not how it runs. does it still run smooth. does it have any problems. Pro/Cons? Thanks, your the only one who reviewed that board.
ANY ONE KNOW WHY THE ASUS WS 299 PRO (NOT SE) HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED IN THE USA? I BOUGHT MINE FROM LEGIT RETAILER AND HAD NO PROBLEM REGISTERING THE S/N ON MY ASUS ACCOUNT. WHY NOT SELL IN THE USA? THANK YOU!!
Great vid - thanks! I agree it certainly looks quality & robust! I wonder why it doesn't get the FIVE (5) year warranty like the TUF series. Very strange that, given the same or better materials are used. Any ideas Laurent? I'm looking to build my first machine soon and I'm favouring TUF Mark 1 simply due to THAT industry unique warranty. Neither the PRO or the SAGE have it. Strange.
Very helpful you review! What PSU should I buy for this motherboard? I saw that have 2 x EATX12V1 - EATX12V2 (8pins) + 1 x EATX12V3 (6 pins), you forgot to specify this in your review. How to use this EATX12V1(8pins), EATX12V2(8pins) and EATX12V3(6pins) ??? Regards!
Even in this day and age wired internet is faster and more reliable than wireless. With more and more wireless devices filling the airwaves it will probably never be as dependable as wired.
Hey Laurent, have you assembled your system already? I've purchased the same motherboard, and a power supply from said compatible in pc-part-picker website (CoolerMaster V750, RS-750-AFBA-G1) but power cables won't fit. I can connect the 24pin power cable (to both MB and power supply, no issues). However, the motherboard's user guide states (p1-27) both 8-pin power cables must also be connected otherwise the system won't boot.
The issue is: the 8pin CPU cable connects to the power supply but the other end won't fit in the motherboard. Any advice?
Hahaha had a lot of fun with the review!! Subscribed.
LOVE your channel! I bought the Rog Strix E with the i97940x cpu, and the board died within a few months... Would this be better as a replacement? I do LOTS of video editing, often with raw Red footage.
Shoud i get this with i7 7820X and AMD WX3100 as a new daily driver since the i7 920 isnt cutting it with gt 1030 and ssd, i might give the old one to my brother
Or should i get an i7 8700K or R7 2700X if there is a mobo from Asus that is WS
customize heat sink ! lol wt..
And they are still expensive in 2020. The CPUs alone cost between 1000 and 1500 USD..
lga 1151 i9 and lga 2066 i9 cpu i7-7740x still a good cpu
Tech Chap: Why do you say "not really meant for you and me" at the 2:18 mark in the vid? Surely you and I are enthusiasts, we do video editing - so why not meant for us? These are the things (video editing + high end gaming) that you said the chips are made for and these activities are definitely NOT rare at all in the real world. Rather than Threadripper, I'd be VERY interested in how an X299 board performs against a Z390 in video editing and high end gaming. With, say, an i9 9900 in the Z390 and an i9 9900X in the X299. That would be a really useful insight. Please.
It is 2019 and I have just moved to X299 with an EVGA Dark Board with an i9-7920X....I am enjoying it, so far!
Seems like AMD is leading. Intel was supposed to be on 10nm two years ago. Don’t get me wrong I am pro Intel, there a U.S. company. I want them to be wowing the tech world
This is a deadly combination bro
Why does the text on the cpu cover, note: "Install cpu BEFORE removing cover" ?
I am one of those that has a bucket of money and I am going to buy the top of the range for everything. I love it.
Ok, I'm going to buy one... maybe then i'll be able to run Google Chrome.
What's after z390 8 core
i9 processors do exist holy crap. I will have to think about it. I have nothing against MSI but Im not a fan of MSI graphic cards. THOSE WHO ARE INTO STREAMING ON YOUTUBE AT SLOW PRESETS (OBS x64) I WOULD BUY ONE OF THESE PLUS NEW MOBO THAT GOES WITH IT (MSI only right now?) AND SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. Im still using a i7 6700 at stock speed (4 GHz) and I stream at medium presets on OBS. I cant say this right now but its a pain in the butt with me using full screen and using 30 FPS 1920x1080. It still stutters in windowed at 60 FPS a little playing Shogun 2 Total War. Im not sure if its because of the recording or even the processor. If I used this with settings Im using now in fullscreen and there was no lag and no stuttering from processor and looked crisp online yeah I will buy one.
hey dude can u help me build a new pc
How may GPU would it support?
*there not that easy to get*
Me: Well it cost 2K so I clearly get that
when you give 700$ for a motherboard and cant even afford an i3
