Want to see more AMD EPYC videos?
i enjoyed the video and subbed! Can this be used as a workstation running some form of Linux if not Windows?
Do the heatsinks next to the PCIE slots not block the GPUs?
Part 2 please! :)
I was just looking into 1P EPYC 7002 boards, and I was lucky enough to find your channel. I'm looking to build in a tower case, and it makes me a bit nervous that these EPYC boards all seem to be geared toward rack mount. As you know the standard for "good airflow" is quite different for tower cases vs. rack mounted servers. VRM temperature is particularly a matter of concern for me and I'd love to see a board with beefier VRM that runs cooler. If you know of such a board please let me know. Thanks for an informative video!
Is there a way to change the fan speed manually on this board through IPMI or BIOS? I have couple of 4 pin fans connected, but i can only monitor the speed, not change it. Running on latest version
Does this board support PCI-E bifurcation to breakout slots to x4/x4/x4/x4 for quad m.2 drives / cards?
Thank you in advance guys :)
part 2 video please!
where is part 2 ??
Wish SOMEONE would make an epyc workstation board with double-slot spacing between the pcie slots so you could actually fit 4 GPUs in and have a couple slots left over. All those pcie lanes stuck in 7x single slots is no good
Very detailed. Thank you, sir.
¡Bueno, esperando la segunda parte, genial!
What accent is this?
Thanks for the review. I'm looking forward to getting this board but really would like to see Part 2 of your review. Any update on that?
Anyone wants to download the manual, it's here:
https://gzhls.at/blob/ldb/d/8/3/4/4c2219ea28b9f02c8fb4cdd5181256dcacda.pdf
Great review. How many SSD U.2 can the board support? And what speed RAM?
The motherboard manual says there is a SATA dom port on this behemoth, any idea where it is?
Very nice review with a good description and good shots of the board, allowing viewers like me to pause and study the details. And I clearly share your passion for attention to details.
Just ordered this board today. I hope, it will come with the TB-3 header. This is unclear to me, as there are pictures of the board with or without it. The manual says, it's a build option. But I only see one SKU available - no different versions of the board. To me, it is not mandatory to have TB-3, but it would open some nice opportunities.
Two things I dislike about this board: Only 6-phase VRM and the cooling solution for the 10G NIC chip above the PCI-e slots. The fins of the cooling-plate raise high enough to block the usage of double-width PCI-e cards. There is only space for one double-width card going into the PCI-e slots next to the CPU. Honestly, this is dumb. The VRM will be fine for me, as my CPU will stay within the 225W standard envelope. Asrock claims to support the 280W 7H12 in the manual, something I consider somewhat questionable.
Otherwise, based on specs, this is the perfect board for me.
Where can I get it? on the webpage its NOT!!!!
We need a build for this
More :)
Sorry but am just about to buy a second hand one for a file server are these not a 8 core cpu? Cheers stew
Power Consumption would be very interesting.
It should be called Intel Aborton. This is one of the most crappy CPUs ever, basically there is no PC out there less performant than this.
Only the MB+CPU costs 250GPB on Amazon, and is weaker than a 150GBP PC
Is basically what intel does over and over again.
Aren't you excited about 2329 CPU Mark? and 500 single thread? It's 2002 all over again !
Can this motherboard boot up off an iSCSI target? It isn't 100% clear. I plan on buying one for FreeNAS to create iSCSI targets and I want the other to boot up off these iSCSI targets. Intel i210 documentation says it supports it, but the asrock documentation doesn't mention it.
+David Lindeman : Yes, indeed it is. This board is running freeNAS at my home lab for the past 3 months with no issues. I recommend this board. The only challenge I had was finding the right memory sticks. This model of server board needs to have an unbuffered memory to work with.
For your information on finding the right memory, please take a look at the memory products validated from the memory manufacture – Kingston, http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search/Default.aspx?DeviceType=7&Mfr=ASR&Line=Server%20Board&Model=87350&Description=Kingston_ValueRam_Memory_Server_Premier_Memory_HyperX_Memory_for_ASRock_Server_Board_C2550D4I
You may notice that all the memory they have validated for this server board are unbuffered. Crucial has a similar list of validated memory, and they are all unbuffered.
@uncledave1969 boards utilising the marvell controllers are not compatible with FreeNAS and technically FreeBSD entirely, at least until working drivers are made available.
nice review.. i hope you can answer me, do you think this board can handle CCBOOT? a software for diskless client booting, streaming HD games on gigabit network.
Do you know if this board would be compatible with FreeNas?
Nice review, i wish everyone was as direct and no-nonsense
thanks very much.
Cheers
Apologies for the misspell in title at 4:46!
If you have not seen our review of the Rome D8-2T, you can do so here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q95RlXh9BPA
I have a couple of these boards that I just tried to setup. I noticed that the first NVME slot does not work. Not with my Gen.4 NVME or the older Samsung 950 Pro. There is a new BIOS P1.30 that claims to fix this issue. But does not actually fix it. I am guessing that this is the reason why you are not using the first NVME slot either.
I thoroughly enjoyed your video!! It's exactly what I was looking for! Do you mind making another same video for Asrock Rack IPMI on how to connect to it? I have been looking video on how to connect to it as I have a X4704DU.
My compliments for the video! Could you check if the board is capable of doing suspend to ram (S3 ACPI). It would be quite important for workstation applications. Thanks!
Hi! Very informative video!
Which cpu cooler are you using? How does that compare to noctua nh-u9 tr4-sp3?
The cooling solution was never mentioned or put into the pats list with links
I always thought IPMI stopped once the OS loaded. If I had an IPMI enabled motherboard (and are there any ITX form factor ones that support a 4750G), could I use IPMI to see a Windows desktop?
Is there a way to change the fan speed through IPMI or BIOS?
Thank you very much for this little demo. I'm trembling in anticipation for my BigRig budget, which will be spent on one of those puppies. Btw, those 2 pages (mentioned in Part 1) are merely the quick start guide, not the full 87 pages manual.
Great video. There, however, a few points which I don't like about the BMC solution on this motherboard:1
1. I have found NO documentation about the BMC's software API. No REST-call examples and no statement about what API they might provide, such as Redfish
2. If you populate more fans the sensor page reports fans as "Not Available" if they have been turned off when the system has sufficient cooling. A reading of "0 RPM" would be better
There are also quite a few interesting options in the BIOS. One could do a whole video on these and for the interested buyer, this might be helpful.
All in all, the ROMED8-2T is a very decent board without any real flaws. I have mine running since May with a 7702P and 512GBytes memory. It never failed on me and behaves/performs just as expected, even under heavy load for many hours straight.
The mic sound good! What model is that?
Cool, thanks for the tutorial. I think i know an app similar to it. It was called i think "AweSun Remote Desktop" and had all the features you mentioned even more and was free. Free and works for me.
Dunno why ecc is getting expensive 😕
I noticed less jumpcuts! WOOTS!
Nobody saw your local network IP:192.168.12.119 @ 2:03 no worries.
I'm going to buy this motherboard and Epyc 7402P
thank you for the good explanation of both the full motherboard (previous video) and now the IPMI (never used it before and was lost on if i wanted it)
One question is i am originally planning on only installing 2 Memory modules will this just work? (it's hard to find the memory i want where i live so only can get limited amount atm)
You know the guy is working hard on his videos when he looks tired. Appreciate the commitment!
Wow! What a beast!
So, you used normal ram modules there? Not ECC or from ASRock Rack QVL list?
Word!
The SATA Controller is likely the X570 chipset itself. It can handle up to 12 6Gb/s drives iirc
Can you upgrade the BIOS without a CPU installed? Eg. if I don't have a 3rd gen. Ryzen to install and want to run this with a newer Ryzen CPU.
LMAO!!, as I try to concentrate with the technical details, the screen turns on in the background with you doing the lambada with the motherboard...... I had a question for you, I guess I could look it up but, if you don't use a NVME M.2 just a regular one, bandwidth should be much less and I guess affect your 10 Gig network a little less, in theory right? BTW, if you are going to be using that for your unraid server, you'll most likely need a LSI 9201-16i IT MODE as I remember you have MANY drives already. Looking forward to see your build and see if you run into any issues as I am thinking of getting it myself for my 2U server. BTW, if that Dynatron CPU cooler is too loud, you may want to consider the NH-L12S, I am using that with a Ryzen 3900X and my temperatures are pretty cool around 40 C (depending on what case you put it into of course).
T-topology or daisy chain memory trace layout? This is a pretty important thing to inspect on such a product. Especially since the only known T-topology board on X570 and B550 is the ASRock X570M Pro4. Even the ATX version of the same motherboard is daisy chain.
I can’t find anywhere online to buy this MBO. I am looking to it since a long time…
Have you tried the x4x4x8 setting for PCIE Slot 6 Length? Does that mean it's doing x4x4 on the x16 slot and x8 on the x8 slot?
What size chassis are you planning on?
Also, any plans on BNC interface video? I never even heard of that until this video?
Great motherboard and good first look. Something seems off about the main video colors...seems soft or washed out. Your b-roll doesn't seem to have that problem and looks normal. Either way, keep up the good work!
Looks like that Ditto is doing 2/3 of the work hahahaha!
Is there a compatibility issues between marvell controllers and Unraid that I'm not aware about?
Are you on the serverbuilds forum?
wait. 24 lanes:
20 split betwen 3 pci
4 m.2 nvme
4 betwen 10gb lan and 2nd m.2 nvme
dosnt add up
then the above pcie gets 16.
what about the other 2?
i could not resit and wrote. but still. you said 20 between 3 pci. i got 2x570 and i have no idea right now if the chip has lanes.
well.. I think you found my unraid motherboard. That and some ECC ram are now in my future. Good quick once over. Thanks.
