Thanks RJ! The vids have been very helpful. Question: I'm resurrecting a 20yr old bike picked off side of the street (left as rubbish). It has AlexRims ID19 wheels (specs same as DC19) with hubs that look EXACTLY like in this clip. When fully assembled I only have 3.9mm of axle protruding on each side. Is this OK? I'm concerned this is not enough. The dropouts are 6mm thick. The washers are 1mm think. I was thinking of removing the washers. That should get me to about 5mm on each side. Would that be OK? Or are the washers serving some purpose like ensuring a better lock between the cone and nut? Or assisting the rubber boot to prevent dirt/water ingress around the nut? I'm new to QR axles and find them dubious. Would prefer the dropouts were sitting on more metal. Thanks in advance!
I have both new and old bikes. I am extremely grateful for these valuable skills in repairing older bikes, this helps me so much. You are a very valuable addition to the biking community. Thank you.
The mic is highly sensitive, it’s picking up on whatever your sucking on, not really into weird fetish.
The hub on my bicycle wheels had ceramic ball bearings so they fell right out. I only had to tip the wheel over after taking out the cup. A couple where still stuck in the hub though. There was some grease holding them down in place. I got them out with a set of tweezers. The ceramic ball bearings is the new thing now. Supposedly the ceramic ball bearings are more round, smoother, and have a lower friction resistance. I did check the size of them so I can get a new set. I didn't have the special park tool though so I used the screw/drill gauge that I already had. I just put the ball bearing in whichever hole it fitted in. It looks like they are 1/4". Nevertheless, I did get the hub overhauled. After I got it all back together I thought I did it wrong But after watching your video it looks like I did it exactly as you did. Which is a relief because now I wont have to take it all back apart again and redo it all. Thanks RJ. 😀
So incredibly helpful. Thank you!
Can you use Vaseline as a greaser
The cups in the wheel I'm working on are damaged but not replaceable. I replaced only the ball bearings and left the damaged cups and the wheel is completely silent now. It may only last a year, but this repair is cheaper and easier than rebuilding the wheel with a new hub.
I bought a bicycle and couldn't install the front wheel. I messed up in the hub. I hope i get it fixed tomorrow
nice work!
Thanks for this great video. Question: why is it important for the quick release lever to go on the non-drive side of the front wheel?
Your videos are of the highest quality. Camera placement, focus, sound, everything's perfect. And we learn so much from you. Thank you.
I want to remove back sidewheel pls
Doing this right now on my motor bike.. it was in need of a overhaul.. 🚲💨
Thanks your videos have really helped me out 👍
Great videos man
Hello RJ,could you make a video on a wobbly wheel with a freewheel type hub?
Considering I'm about to do a one year servicing on my bike. This is real good to know. Thank you for the video
Why when tightening the cone I can't get it smooth, only rough whether looser or tighter? What could be causing that please.
Man i wish this guy was my neighbor

🙄 P-R-O-M-O-S-M.
I want this :P
Excellent video, made it easy to understand from a non-confident home mech like myself.
To cut it short, there is the inner axle and the outer axle so called as thru-axle?
I am from India and I have a cycle but both wheel and bottom only balls and cup can change to bearing?
how do you remove the bearing that was used as a press? I saw you removed it with ease, which is NOT how it happens. Great video up to the point where you edit difficult parts or how to deal with difficult parts.
how about the back wheel?
I'm replacing the bearings and this video helps. Thanks for sharing.
Does anti seize work instead of grease?
Very helpful video. 5:55 i found the best way to help centre the inner sleeve is to put the wheel on it's side and level, then the sleeve will be vertical and the bearing will compress on to it squarely. As for cleaning, chain and gear degreaser might make your drive train look awesome but will liquify any bearing grease!
Well what do you do if the bearing collapses 😂 ?
The BEST tutorial ever. Very brief and easy to understand.
Hey thanks for the great video. I have a set of Hunt Aero Wide’s. The bearing looks to be set deeper than one bearings width, it looks like if I used the old bearing as a drift then I would end up pressing both bearings back in??
Nolan, this is awesome, thanks! I've been servicing (volunteer at a LBS) older bikes using cup/cone and "get that". This does look much simpler. Probably a silly questions, but how do I determine the right size bearings for my more modern MTB wheels? Thanks!
You didn't show how to remove the axle from the start.
Thanks for the tips, did not expect to find this brilliant info
This is the best wheel bearing tut out there. I’ve watched many. Thanks!
Show your work, even if you don't show your face, it will work.
1:20 You skipped through this part too fast. I didn't get it. That is what I want to know how and tools I need to expose the cartridge bearings for examination and service. Maybe somebody can do a video that shows how to do this from the beginning.
what is the purpose of the hub sleeve? the mechanic forgot to put it in. FUUuu
Got 4 new bearings for my rocker bmx but sadly it's got completely different axles i only replaced 2 bearings the other 2 old ones won't come out and they're sealed like these but yeah idk I'll see what a bike shop can do and another bike i bought from them its an amazing brand it's a kink street bmx and the brakes don't work and the cranks do this weird jolt type movement and clank really loud noticed right after i got the bike anyway thank you so much tho and i just now subscribed
Man - my hubs are a good bit more conplicated and I use that bike cleaner...
