i couldn’t get a close enough camera shot; but I didn’t know how meticulous the cabling process requires; now i know when i get brake adjustments at whatever bike shops i’ve been to, the adjustment is solid for on avg two daysthey are not putting in the precision you are. I have to learn to do it myself. thnx
If you aren't grinding the ends of the housing flat & perpendicular, then you aren't doing it right. It's an entire additional step, but worth it. Cutting housing, especially wound brake housing ends up with an angled end. And worse: oftentimes the wire will fold over on itself, so you have to really pay attention to removing that AND grinding. When the ends aren't flat & perpendicular, that's when you get flex in the system, leading to squishy braking and questionable index shifting.
You should do a review of those shimano cable cutters.there is no YouTube review of those
Put the camera closer so we can see what you're doing
Why plastic ferrule caps? It is the easiest I can find to buy on Amazon, but my Google searches say to buy metal, as they have less squish and are stiffer so the tension you set on the derailleur stays steady.
Wanker.
No offense, but as opposed to wasting a bit of my time there at the end of the video (it was actually even longer since I found myself having to replay that last part a couple times to figure out what the hell I was watching seeings how the informative portion just ended abruptly) You could have taken a moment to go over using that crimping tool for those of us who haven't used one before, which I'm going to go out on a limb in assuming that refers to the majority of us watching this video to begin with yeah? I'm not trying to be a cynic, it's just that was the whole reason I'd clicked this vid to begin with & you failed to even cover it.
I used this method for pushing the end-cap (Jagwire) on the housing (Jagwire) and. there are still 5mm of gap inside. Really, make a test and see for yourself. Your method is VERY VERY WRONG.
A premium ferrule/cable/housing assembly, as mentioned by Simon (below) goes like this: Insert Cable into housing pulling out sufficient excess to work with. Place hard plastic seal ring seating sleeve onto cable. It fits around the cable and into the ferrule. So it is a very small part. Next, work the rubber dust & water seal ring (even smaller) onto cable. Insert prepared cable into ferrule. The compression of the rubber ring by the pressure of the housing keeps everything nice and dry.
OK but not remotely close to a guide to ferrule fitting, eg. did you know that there are ferrules that have in-built washers to exclude water & dust?
Thats easy
will a BIC work!
So, does the solder bond with the wire? It doesn't fall off?
Why not use an alloy crimp?
There is an easier way, called crimps which also looks nicer and is far quicker but today we are going to talk about soldering which needs extra equipment, extra set of skills, extra time and looks ugly But here we go
Great info
At least someone got what I was looking for
mine fell off what do i do?
what if it falls off?
What a waste of bloody time. A crimp more than suffices. It also looks tidier than some shit solder.
Great, now I need to learn how to use brake cables for derailleurs because they're less prone to breaking. Planned obsolescence!
A very useful video. My local bike shop has repaired the same cable 3 times, but only ever used the crimp on bits, which inevitably come off. This method is much better. Not too keen on unwinding the cable, but I have a 2 metre cable and only need 550mm, so plenty of practice wire. Got new cable cutters arriving shortly.
Super idea
Hmmm. I was thinking of using aluminum foil. And maybe some tape. I'm clearly a beginner
You can also solder the last 1/8" of the cable prior to threading it through the housing.
Amazing tip. Ty for sharing!
is this a joke?
If u make the cable end a bit longer than shown u can tuck it behind the brake spring stop points,it looks much tidier that way & u wont catch ur legs or clothes on it
it actually works I tried it on my scooter and it helped me out so much I'm going to fray up wires and unfray them
Why you solder twice?
Is this bike sponsored by Soy?
thanks for the info
Where can get the end cap?
I have need this cap in big quantity. Any body deal or guide me
I just got 100 pcs. of bike cable end caps that I never ordered or knew what it was for till I saw this video.
Great thank you
Abdul
Thank you
Do you have any tips for diy cable crimps? Because I can’t get any at the moment.
nice adio
Until you cut the wire I thought this was played in reverse.
Either you have leathery fingers or a silky smooth cable because what you just did is impossible with the cable I have
