Many thanks for review. Same problem for me, I'll plan to buy used the same bike
The 2016 Modell is better
Great video! You are right, there are not many if any deep dive reviews on this bike. QQ: What is the widest tire you could get in the rear triangle?
So can I order the other ghost model through rei?
Own a 2019 (Red) 2.9 Great bike for sure I got rid of the RS Deluxe RT3 and replaced it with a coil shock DVO Jade X and will be going to a RS Pike up front . I enjoy the Ghost a lot 🤙
How much is this bike
...🙂
In regards to the cable routing. It seems this has been issue for the fot years. I have the 2016 great Bike..it loves to climb. Anyway. The 2016 routed there cable internally to the detailer well myself and 3 other riders in Colorado had the weld break ( faulty design) . Ghost honored the warranty and replaced the entire swing arm. They routed the cables externally from that hole at the back of the frame under the Chainstay in the clips. Hopefully you don't experience the same problem. It took 5 weeks to get the replacement sense it had to come from Germany .
I've got one of these, I love it!
Hey I have two questions how did you install this ring around the fork? And why do you have a sram sx I have a Shimano slx?
The cabling issue you described shows that GHOST designers and engineers are not riding their own products. Very disappointing.
Hi. Could You tell how tall are You and what size is the bike?
I had the same issue with the shifting cable... such a dumb design.... rei was able to help me out and added an extension to the cranks that pushed it out further and solved the issue
I bought the same bike and have been fortunate to have zero issues so far. Probably have literally around three to four hundred miles on it and have loved every one of them!
Got the same bike, you think if I got a 32 tooth sprocket , would it fix the problem?
I have three 2019 SLAMR 2.9's (mine and 2 for my sons). You are spot on about the shifter cable getting eaten by the chainring. My fix was small zip-ties because I tube wrapped the bottom chain stay for chain slap. You will want to watch the brake cable as well because it will walk backwards too and slowly shorten until during tight right/left (depending on how REI ran the cables) turns look like you are going to snap the brake cable (messy) from the brake lever. The fix there is to use silicone spray on the intake hole for the brake cable (near the bottom bracket you pointed it out in your video) and pull the brake cable slack back out the top near the handlebar/headset hole. Once you have enough brake cable out put a zip-tie (black one for camouflage) on the brake cable at the intake for the internal cable routing (handlebar/headset hole) on the so it won't walk back in. A couple of negatives for the bike. 1) Finding a replacement derailleur hanger for it. If you don't have one order one, ASAP. Luckily I was able to bend one of mine back to semi-working order but the true replacement part I had to get from Germany and it took a month and half to get to me. The part you need is the same as on my bikes (Item-No.: FRHG0057). The only place I found that had them was bike24 dot com in Germany. REI may have one but watch out because Ghost makes 3 hangers that look the same but two of them use a smaller M3 mounting screw where the SLAMR hanger uses a M4 screw. 2) Rear hub cartage bearing on the drive side seized on one of the bikes due to a dust cover or lack of one not being in place. I agree with you that it is a good starter bike but needs some care to keep them going.
My derailleur cable poked thru the chainstay on my first ride also. I emailed Ghost about it and they had a dude from Alta-Cycling Group, their owners, contact me. He sent me a 32t chainring and a rubber decal that is made to cover that cable opening in the chainstay. The rubber piece actually doesn't work though, the derailleur cable pushes thru it. I ended up using a small zip tie to hold the cable in place.
Too funny—almost identical story; I got my Ghost 29 SlamR about a week before the REI sale (2000 vs $1800 ☹️☹️). Been a good bike so far. Only issues: brake fluid leak—probably from an accident/fall by me! remedied with a refill and tightening of the brake line nut-fitting by the lever. And the derailleur slips which is annoying. Alas I have my FREE warranty tune up this Tuesday—another great reason To choose REI. Only other issues are non-bike issues. I am 6’5” 205 lbs, and bought an XL. It’s fun to ride and has met my expectations. I’m a newby as well, 56 years old , decent athlete/strength. If I stick with mountain biking Or develop a serious addiction, I will probably be exploring some slightly smaller, more nimble bikes—size L, and 27.5s too. Carbon, etc... Also, FWIW also bought a Polygon Siskiu D7 for my son. $1,300 + 170 for new dropper post. Pretty happy so far. Really appreciate the review by thebujster! Happy Shredding!!
What size frame did you get and how tall are you?
I have the 2019. I love it. Had the same issue with the shift cable, that's the only issue I've had. In my opinion it excels at nothing but is capable enough at everything, exactly what I wanted as a first bike. I am going to try out a 31mm stem and 28T chainring soon to see how that changes the feel.
