When Apple weren't so lazy. Compared to the last two iPod touch models. Back in 2013 I was amazed how thin and high tech the iPod was.
I used to have the iPod Touch 5th generation but I don’t have the iPod Touch 4th & 5th generation anymore I have the iPhone XR now a better storage

This was my first iOS device. I still remember having a crappy Samsung exhibit II as my phone. The phone was so bad that I used the iPod for everything except make calls and texts. The iPod 5th generation was an amazing device for its time. It was a lot cheaper than the iPhone and basically did everything an iPhone could do besides calls obviously. I really loved that iPod. It was super thin even for today’s standards. I also think it was the first apple device that started the stupid camera that stuck out the device.

I got one way back when they came out, still use it as a dedicated music player (iOS 9 support helps there) to save some battery on my iPhone
I was 20 years old when I got mine, I am 28 now and I am still using it for music although it's battery is basically almost dead at this point and in serious need of replacement. If I keep the display on it lasts like. 20 minutes.

I just ordered a used iPod Touch 5th Gen from eBay to use to offload photos and video from my iPhone 12 mini. I also have a mfi usb flash drive for the same thing but some videos I want to be able to access on the iPod but don’t want them on my iPhone because it makes backing up take forever. I hope for this purpose it does it’s job. I only spent $40 on it.
With iPod, Apple managed to get my money when I'm not interested to buy overpriced iPhone, but still want to play iOS games back in 2012. Never regret.
