After moving to a smaller studio, I no longer had room for my Tama Artstar IIs, which was heart breaking. Recording with a DrumKat just wasn’t cutting it so I decided to try the DM10 electronic drum kit. Out of the box the setup was not unfamiliar, and the ability for me to change the entire sound of my kit on the fly was an exciting. While it’s NO replacement for my vintage Tamas, I can at least play the Alesis DM10 kit like a drummer and get my tracks played and recorded the way I need them. I wanted to share this with anyone on the fence about adding a good budget electronic kit to their smaller studio setups.
Ok, I really hate to say this, But I'm totally confused? on how to set evertything up on my Dm10 Module? Understand I replaced my drum kit of what I use to play on a Ludwig Blue Vistalite Octaplus drum kit with a DM 10 kit. Plus I was told that if I wanted to add more drums and Cymbals to the kit? I would either double up on the plug in's or buy another module and plug the midi into the Dm 10 to pick up sounds from the different Module. I did that I brought a DM 4, tryed to find the sounds from that couldn't to well. So I also add a Trigger I O, and added to the mix. I use to play on a big kit at one time, So to get what I wanted, I made a custom kit. I have #15 drum triggers and #13 Cymbal Triggers, with #4 Hi Hat triggers. So I'm looking to pay someone that knows the different systems to help get the sounds i want out of the modules? Any help would be totally great. Thank you all Jeff Jamm.
I'm a church sound man and the drummer has asked that I look into some changes. This figures since I'm a guitar player! The issue I have is the unit defaulting back to all levels full after powering on. We've spent a few hours with the kit getting levels and storing the changes but every time it's powered up the levels have defaulted. Where am I going wrong?
I have an Alesis Strike Multipad that I use whenever I want to play drums like a real drum set. I don’t always want to program drums MPC style. The Multipad has great built in sounds but you can import your own sounds as well.
Definitely get the drum-tec software to replace the onboard sounds. The hardware looks nice quality. Sounds not so much. Drum-tec live classic will take care of it.
Its worth it for the instrument samples alone
I would mainly want to use this kit as a midi controller for something like superior drummer 3. For the better samples. Could you show us that please?

I have an Alesis Nitro mesh kit. My only problem with it is that the bass drum is not big enough to support a double pedal. Thanks for the review. I am thinking about buying this one.

That's the most angled mesh toms I've seen in years
like any module it has some great sounds and some very bad sounds. Realistically if you can 4 great kits out of module what else do you need. If you had accoustic drums you'd only have one sound

Alesis- mine fell apart again and again. Bass drum trigger was very poor. Double kick will destroy it in no time. Quality isn't good, though the trigger unit was excellent.
My first kit was the dm10, sold it after buying house. Got an acoustic kit, sold that when I moved back into an apartment. Got a dm10x lol, sold that when I fell on hard times. Gonna buy a dm10 mesh maybe today?
How is the latency?
Does the snare capture ghost notes??? Trying to decide between this one and the crimson which does capture ghost notes on snare. Sorry didn’t see you do any on vid.

Your timing is bad, playing well isnt just about playing fast. Also your right crash is a hi hat cymbal, hence no choke. Poor review.

Learn how to set up a kit before making a video kid.
Spend time to refine the quality of your kits. I've done a video in all the custom kits on my Dm10x because many people haven't. The extra time you take to perfect all the parameters goes a long way in improving the way your kit sounds, as well you embellishing yourself as a drummer. ✊🏿

You are doing great dude, you have some great beats and tricks, next step is working on your flow to maintain some kind of a vibe while freestyling. Add that skill to your profile and you are well on your way to becoming a great drummer. I used to be a percussion teacher and used to tell students that play at the same level as you that the real fun is about to start. Now that you can do a bunch of cool sounding techniques, play around with then, flow in to different patterns and beats and see what creates a good vibe. Pretty soon you will find, that you develop a certain vibe for every mood, and new tricks pile on to each. The real real fun starts then :P (Yes it just keeps getting more fun as you go)
I'm not gonna criticize your playing because you're obviously learning which is great but, damn the kit sounds mediocre at best.

Thanks for posting this! I'm interested in buying this kit and I just kind of wanted to hear as many sounds as possible. I wish more people would post videos like this where they just play a bunch of stuff and try things out.

I am having problems with my dm 10 usb input, any idea how to solve this problem, the usb input is not recognized by any computer. thanks for your help.
So am I right in believing that I can use my own samples with this? Can any one fill me in on how this is done? Is there some software which transfers from computer to the DM10 or is it a case of plugging in a USB stick into DM10 and selecting sounds. Can any one tell me what the exact internal memory of this thing is/how many of my own samples/kits could I use? many thanks.

i got the studio kit 2011 model.. the best ive played, better than my accoustic by far, well after the update of the module was done. great kit just got to work out how to trigger the modules sounds in midi in cubase with out using a vst, i want to use the dm10s sounds on my midi tracks man please if you can help me that would be great, ive used it with battery 3 and no problems but i want the modules sounds so bad, help.

This is a great module. Every sound you will ever need from jazz to comedy sounds, rock to fusion, it's all here. I have Roland too and this is up there with the best for the money. I would recommend using Roland PDX pads with it as the Alesis pads are a bit noisy unless you play live. There are so many adjustments you can make on this and the sounds are great quality.
