I changed the ear pads for the brainwavz xl micro suede . More comfort ,the bass is better and the treble is not as bright. Makes good headphones even better .
Can you tell the difference of k550 mk1 and k702 if talking about mixing eq curve etc. I don't have anymore original earpads in k550 and wondering if these cans would be nice replacement even I have now 3rd party replacement pads on k550. They don't feel like the originals too bad

I'm a total noob, but about to buy some open back headphones and was thinking of these! It seems though that they are over 4 years old!?!? Is this true or have they been updated? Or are they still really great compared to the competition that s available today?

One thing to note is that these headphones are really good for mixing if you are at least somewhat knowledgeable in your profession and have a few other sources to reference with. I have them, they're great but the ''width'' can be misleading, especially when mixing, and you should note that one factor that makes them sound that wide is the fact that bass frequencies are non-existent (it starts rolling off slightly above 100hz) comparing to some other products. Also a nice headphone preamp is almost a must with these. They do not sound bad without it but in practice you're not using them efficiently and do not get a flat response and detail, especially on the low end. They do have exceptionally good mid-range detail and can serve as a good tool but I'm not sure I would recommend them if you're a beginner-ish and these will be your only pair.
Im considering these, just beacuse they are 150 dollars where I live and they have (supposedly) very good imaging which would be nice for FPS games.
No, don't buy these piece of shit headphones, they're utterly terrible. It takes 1 drop to de-solder the wires and good fucking luck soldering them back with the stupid way these headphones are crafted. Do yourself a favor and don't buy these.
I have these and while yes the sound is very sharp and clear I find them incredibly quiet. The volume capacity is barely 50% of my Audio Technicas. Can this be solved by simply using an amp ? If so can anyone recommend one under 200$ ? Thanks

The headband creates a feeling of irritation if you have little or no hair after a while. otherwise it is very good headphones. it might have been better to apply some kind of soft foam .
I had Q701 for a very long time and they served me great for 9 years. I bought the K702 to replace them and they sounded no where close to as good as my Q701. They also broke less than a 2 months in. I had to send them in to get fixed which cost me 35 dollars in shipping. Wish I would have went with something else.
If you're in the U.S. and looking to buy these just know you can save $200 by buying them from amazon UK for $150 instead of $350 U.S. retail. Hope that helps!
Would you say these are good for just hearing music? I listen to instrumental music the most time, but I wouldn't use these AKGs for mixing, just for hearing music :)

After two plus years I am looking to replace these as they are falling apart. The comfort has been excellent. The sound, to my ear, has been very good except in the lower register of a male voice. Here I have always gotten some breaking almost like the headset was wireless and lost connection. I returned it twice and got them back with no comment. But the problem remained. Basically, they were simply sending my headset back to me without any kind of repair and without any kind of comment. So, I will be going to a different manufacturer. Likely, I will spend a couple more $ and try Sennheiser. I believe AKG is part of Harmmon which is now owned by Logitech. My take is that they cut corners in a good product to increase profits. The net result is that the product is diminished. And, Logitech does not notice.......

k702s are the most uncomfortable headphones ever, the clamp has so much pressure and there is no way to remedy it since the clamp is designed that way

These are not reference headphones, they have slightly veiled mids and elevated bass.
K702 is not K7XX... I know you'l find people saying the K7XX are rebranded K702 65th anniversary edition, but they're not.

The quality control is terrible, too many problems with wiring/soldering, and they come with a shitty cable and a scrap cable. It's no wonder AKG couldn't make any damn money

This is a Q701 and not a k702.
Come on, mate, they don't have any lows at all, especially with the stock pads, which in turn are not squishy, they are hard as hell. I had to replace them with Dekoni Hybrids, which are much more comfy and they reproduce at least something like bass and correct the crazy irregularities in the high-mid to low-treble area, albeit at the expense of some stage width. Calling them neutral is very far from the truth. I also had to rip off the bass membranes at the back of the drivers (so called bass mod) in order to get enough lows and eventually start hearing something in that area for mixing and analysis. From a sound engineering and audiophile perspective these are very colored cans, thin and very shouty because of the nasty peaks in the treble. However, these peaks allow for very good audibility of errors in the recordings... which is probably why AKG labelled them "mastering headphones" but I wouldn't recommend them for any mastering job by a mile. They are still in my collection as a pair of "strange" but relatively revealing headphones and one of the most irregular of the bunch (not always that bad actually). The Sennheiser HD600 is much more preferable in the similar price range. Or Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro. Even Philips Fidelio X2.
