The most important thing to know for all external drives: is it shuckable? As in, does it have a SATA-to-USB board attached to normal SATA ports on the drive so you can remove it fro the case and use it in any PC, or is the USB controller integrated into the drive controller board making it virtually useless if the USB port or controller fails, which they often do? Almost every time an external drive fails, it's due tot he USB controller, not the actual drive. When that almost inevitably happens, you want to be able to just take it out and plug it into a SATA cable and keep working with all your perfectly fine data, not have to try and do brain surgery replacing a whole controller board (if you can find one and it even works) or spend big money for a data recovery service.
Hello can somebody give me a little advise. I want to buy my first external hard drive and cant decide which one. Adata 330, 650 or 710. I sympathize with 710 because the USB cord have a place on the hard drive. Any suggestions?

A HDD review *can't be serious* w/o a HDTune beginning-to-end read and *write* speed test (graphical output). Also you don't pay attention whether the drive supports: 1. UASP mode; 2. TRIM/UNMAP command, because the HDDs inside are SMR drives which would work better if know which sectors are discarded. Thanks!
The rubber protection is good. Only drawback is the rubber tab USB port flimsy and feel fragile can easily snap off and goes missing. The previous model has better rubber tab at the corner and rugged.

The most durable aside from this one I have owned was the goflex seagate drive. The WDs are about as sensitive as glass. I dropped a brand new even 2 feet on carpetdestroyed. The Seagate GoFlex.still kicking after 2 many drops. My question is can it withstand a drop while on? Thanks!
